Date: Wednesday, March 16th, 2016 21:44 (UTC)I've done two exchanges and for the most recent I liked that it was a low word count and also quite low pressure too, it was nice to get some feedback from my recipient. The only thing I dislike about exchanges is not getting feedback from the recipient which happened to me before and it put me off participating for a long time.

Date: Thursday, March 17th, 2016 00:49 (UTC)I participate in an exchange for New Year's/Yule -- I've enjoyed it. It gives me a chance to write outside of my usual stuff, and I enjoy doing the research and getting ideas that will fit what the recipient requests. They can be difficult, though, if the request is not well defined, or if the recipient hasn't shared much about likes/dislikes in fic. I did have one time when the recipient never commented or acknowledged the story I wrote for her, so that was pretty annoying -- but other people appreciated the story, and I liked how it turned out, too, so I let it go.

Date: Thursday, March 17th, 2016 00:51 (UTC)Exchanges are the reason I have an AO3 account, and they're great fun ... unless I accidentally get matched to a person I can't stand. (I try to be an even-handed person, but fandom's not always blue skies and butterflies, after all.) That's only happened a couple of times, though; I can usually avoid it by not offering / requesting certain fandoms if I know who's participating.
