How is the writing going today? What about yesterday?
Discussion: editing. It's something that we all have to do, do you like it? do you hate it? get someone else to help with it?

Date: Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 21:29 (UTC)Editing can be the bane of my life especially when I'm having a bad day with the dyslexia, I have my strategy for managing those. I can manage it to a point but there are times when I'd like someone else to look something over but that's not always possible. At the moment I'm slowly editing the already posted chapters of a fic I started posting in 2014 and it's going to be 25 chapters overall and I'm finding that there some things I'd do differently now and that means thinking about the story as a whole a lot more than when I started writing it.

Date: Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 22:45 (UTC)I usually get betas to read through my fanfic. I haven't really finished any profic manuscripts yet, and I tend to edit as I go. Except that if a really big edit is required, then often I just drop the story entirely because I Cannot Even (as they say these days).

Date: Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 23:18 (UTC)Editing is a necessary evil, and one that occasionally drives me nuts, since it feels like I always miss something silly, no matter how fine-toothed the comb is that I use. If needed, I get a beta reader on this sort of thing, but I'm usually on my own, so I accept that something's likely to get past me on the first pass (... or two).

Date: Thursday, May 5th, 2016 01:23 (UTC)I actually really enjoy editing. Not as much as I enjoy research, but I do like it. Editing is something I do as part of my Real Life work, as well -- not every day, but regularly -- so I kind of do it naturally with anything I write. I edit as I go, but I also do several final edits before posting, and with some of my longer WIPs, I go back and edit older chapters again and always find something I missed.
