Holy moly, folks, it's almost June & time for yet another WIP challenge! Who's interested?
Generally some folks join midmonth, or comment on check-in posts, but don't officially sign up. That's fine, of course. For those of you who find the commitment of saying out loud that you're going to finish something useful (as I do!), please sign up as below.
Signups will be open until the end of the month.
Copypaste below:
& as ever, could I please get some volunteers to do the daily check-in posts? A week per person, if possible, would be lovely. I definitely need someone for the first week in June (June 1-4), as I'll be traveling. Please comment if you are able to help out that week or any other. & as always, many thanks to those who've been doing check-in posts already!

- What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
- How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
- Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

This month is when the rubber meets the road. I have two writing projects due -- one allows for no failure, while the other is optional but I really want it to happen! My Big Bang is due in July, but I haven't been doing well at keeping up with it, so I have to make major progress in June, or I'm going to be in trouble. :-D Because of my big projects, my ongoing projects have been sorely neglected, so if the impossible happens and I still have a brain left to write for them, I want to keep my hand in with my other fics, too! I'm very grateful for this community, as I don't think I would have made even this much progress without you all!

Date: Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 15:41 (UTC)Harry Potter: any character, With magic, there are many ways to change one's body; a trans character is determined to bring those avenues to muggle trans folk, in direct opposition of Ministry laws governing muggles/magic.
I've started it twice and I'm just not satisfied with either idea yet :( Oh well! I'll get there! I've got some weeks :)

Date: Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 18:22 (UTC)I am usually better about not having false starts. I do tend to cut half the beginning or rewrite it, but I don't have entire half-stories that don't work. Not so for this prompt!
Wait, that's sort of a lie, I have 9 stories for one fandom in various stages of being done. One of which I am actively the working on. (The other 8? I forgot about them for months. And still don't know what is going on with them. Oops.) But I guess I'm just more determined to finish for this prompt than those. Am trying not to default on queer_fest.

Date: Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 19:43 (UTC)I shall certainly let you know if I come up with anything: that kind of prompt, with all of its OC possibilities, kind of gets into your head (or at least it does mine!).
And likewise -- I'll take all the brilliant ideas I can get!
Heh... I completely know what you mean! I'm usually pretty good about pushing through a beginning that's not working until it coalesces into something that can be fixed with the Stick of Editing -- which isn't to say that I don't have a bunch of abandoned stories, too!

Date: Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 20:05 (UTC)I recently made my friend a little editing ninja. Like, out of yarn and an old red pen. Yeahhhh. He was pretty badass. Anyway, that's what I thought about when you said the Stick of Editing. :D

Date: Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 21:20 (UTC)Dunno -- thinking about weird structure styles sometimes helps me out of a block, sometimes not.
But yes. Writing OCs in a distinct universe is such fun -- and Harry Potter is such a great place to do that. There's enough information (about some things) to give a good framework, but lots of room for speculation.
That editing ninja sounds awesome! :D

What you're looking for from the challenge: motivation, accountability, and maybe even someone to bounce ideas

How people should contact you: dw pm or whatever else you may find

Date: Monday, June 6th, 2011 06:09 (UTC)Level of challenge: I want to finish or get most of my second help_japan fic written.
Fandom(s) involved: Fullmetal Alchemist, Pokemon, Homestuck
What you're looking for from the challenge: Motivation, someone to bounce ideas with (if they know the fandom I'm writing for)
What you could offer other participants yourself:Idea bouncing, cheerleading, betaing (depends on the fandom if I know it)
How people should contact you: DW's PM
Time zone: PST / UTC -7

Date: Saturday, June 11th, 2011 05:09 (UTC)Level of challenge: Plotting done for novel-length piece, at least 3 scenes written (hopefully for novel-length thing, but any other WIP would be good)
Fandom(s) involved: 10th Kingdom, possibly Cranford/Return to Cranford or Romeo & Juliet
What you're looking for from the challenge: feedback on excerpts, cheerleading, letting me know I'm not messing up on social justice issues in universes that aren't necessarily modern SJ friendly (I have a character in the 10th Kingdom fic who is gay and another who is physically disabled, and I am neither, so I'm really worried I'll fall into offensive tropes, which is what has been stalling me on this fic for a really long time) -- so I guess I want every kind of betaing but grammar. :)
What you could offer other participants yourself: I can be a beta and cheerlead and prod. Copy-editing if I'm not familiar with the fandom, which is probably most people here, since I am familiar with no anime or band fandoms. Feedback, discussions, etc.
How people should contact you: PM or DW comments is fine.
Time zone: USA -- CST (GMT -6?)
