Holy moly, folks, it's almost June & time for yet another WIP challenge! Who's interested?

Generally some folks join midmonth, or comment on check-in posts, but don't officially sign up. That's fine, of course. For those of you who find the commitment of saying out loud that you're going to finish something useful (as I do!), please sign up as below.

Signups will be open until the end of the month.

  • Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
  • Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
  • What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
  • What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
  • How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
  • Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Copypaste below:

& as ever, could I please get some volunteers to do the daily check-in posts? A week per person, if possible, would be lovely. I definitely need someone for the first week in June (June 1-4), as I'll be traveling. Please comment if you are able to help out that week or any other. & as always, many thanks to those who've been doing check-in posts already!

Well, there's some pairings in my favorite fandoms I prefer not to read, like Snape/Harry for example.

But why do I have to be comfortable with slash in order to offer writing company? :)

I just didn't want to share something you were uncomfortable with during free-writing sessions or something =)

XDD Snape/Harry happens to be my favorite pairing. Alas! But luckily, I'm not writing HP fic anytime soon.

Level of challenge: A) a chapter of an ongoing round-robin fic, whatever length it ends up being; B) HP smut fics, though I'm burned out on smut, so if I'm not inspired, I'm not writing any; C) work on some of my other unfinished Robin Hood fics
Fandom(s) involved: BBC's Robin Hood, Harry Potter
What you're looking for from the challenge: just to complete that chapter
What you could offer other participants yourself: encouragement
How people should contact you: PM works fine

Level of challenge: Two fics: one is a belated b-day giftfic, the other is a belated auction fic. Apparently, I'm all about catching up with my WIPs.

Fandom(s) involved: Bandom (MCR) for the first one, due South for the latter.

What you're looking for from the challenge: getting the roughdrafts done (hopefully send them to get beta read at some point), cheerleading, accountability and occasional hand-holding.

What you could offer other participants yourself: The very same. :)

How people should contact you: DW PM is fine and dandy with me.

In general, anyone who needs companionship, support, etc. in June, I'm your girl. My hubby and son will be gone for a large portion of the month so I will have a lot of free time, even during the day when I'm at work (I'm the boss). A PM should catch my attention almost immediately.

Level of challenge: not sure. either I already finished my current one-shot, then I'll try to get at least two chapters of Guide ready (and that to finally proofread that last chapter! It's about ready to be posted and I still haven't even opened the file T.T) or the one-shot isn't done so I'll finish it (and the last chapter of Guide, damn it, Anyssia!)

Fandom(s) involved: Final Fantasy VII of course ;p

What you're looking for from the challenge: Motivation and something to keep me on track. If I don't check the posts daily, I "forget" about writing or I postpone it and never get anything done.

What you could offer other participants yourself: encouragements, someone to bitch to, about how your story is doing everything it wants to and not what you want it to do ;p I can give advice on plot ideas but not grammar 'coz English isn't my mother tongue ^^

How people should contact you: DW pm is good or you can comment on the post I added on my journal about this challenge. (link: http://anyssia.dreamwidth.org/47230.html)

Here via fic_promptly. I just joined, but I have three fics I need to get done in June and I could do with the encouragement so here I am. D:

Level of challenge: Three fics. To be fair, one is ~90% done, another is just past 60% done, and the last is 15%?, if I'm being generous. But I want them all done in June, dammit. XD
Fandom(s) involved: The Move RPS, The Prisoner (1967), The Chaser RPS, Electric Light Orchestra RPS *thinks* and a dozen or so more. The 90% complete WIP is a rather epic crossover. XD
What you're looking for from the challenge: Finished fic? One is for AU bigbang, another is for queer_fest, and the last is just a WIP I've been working on for far too long and I really, really want it finished already so I can start posting it.
What you could offer other participants yourself: Beta reading, encouragement cookies (these always work), word wars, etc.
How people should contact you: PM is fine. Willing to exchange other contact details that way (email, IM, etc).
Time zone: GMT +8. No DST. :P

Level of challenge: 1) Finish my one-shot challenge fic by the June due date; 2) Get as close as possible to 20,000 Big Bang words by the end of the month; 3) Finish the last couple of chapters of a long-stalled fic by the end of the month so it can compete in a contest; 4) Try to write one new chapter of one of my ongoing fics that is waiting to be updated.
Fandom(s) involved: Lord of the Rings, Major (anime/manga)
What you're looking for from the challenge: The daily update posts are invaluable to me, as they keep my fics at the forefront of my thoughts and keep me on task and accountable -- not to mention they are encouraging!
What you could offer other participants yourself: encouragement and accountability, as above. I'm willing to do a week of check in posting if you still need a volunteer for June!
How people should contact you: DW PM
Time zone: CST (GMT -6)

This month is when the rubber meets the road. I have two writing projects due -- one allows for no failure, while the other is optional but I really want it to happen! My Big Bang is due in July, but I haven't been doing well at keeping up with it, so I have to make major progress in June, or I'm going to be in trouble. :-D Because of my big projects, my ongoing projects have been sorely neglected, so if the impossible happens and I still have a brain left to write for them, I want to keep my hand in with my other fics, too! I'm very grateful for this community, as I don't think I would have made even this much progress without you all!

What I'm working on isn't fan fiction in a traditional sense (it's a fan visual novel) and it's for a fandom with very little to no fanfic, but maybe this community will help? And it does involve a LOT of writing.... *sob*

Level of challenge: A proper outline and a rough draft of the first third (approx 20 short chapters) of a major project.
Fandom(s) involved: Nier Gestalt. Maybe some ficlets for other things if the stars align and Cthulhu rises.
What you're looking for from the challenge: Camaraderie and commiseration. Maybe writing sessions and word wars. I don't expect anyone to help with the fic itself, but I might throw out general 'hey what do you think' non-fandom-specific questions.
What you could offer other participants yourself: Companionship, proof-reading, non-fandom-specific advice

Level of challenge: Finish, have beta'd, and post queer_fest fic!
Fandom(s) involved: BBC-Sherlock
What you're looking for from the challenge: Accountability and camaraderie, and maybe some writing sessions and/or sprints.
What you could offer other participants yourself: Same, plus at least a mechanical beta.
How people should contact you: PM

oh fascinating! I can't wait to see what you do with it!

Harry Potter: any character, With magic, there are many ways to change one's body; a trans character is determined to bring those avenues to muggle trans folk, in direct opposition of Ministry laws governing muggles/magic.

I've started it twice and I'm just not satisfied with either idea yet :( Oh well! I'll get there! I've got some weeks :)

It's a great prompt! Just the story so far ... not so much. But we'll get there! (if you have any brilliant ideas on the subject, please throw them at me!)

I am usually better about not having false starts. I do tend to cut half the beginning or rewrite it, but I don't have entire half-stories that don't work. Not so for this prompt!
Wait, that's sort of a lie, I have 9 stories for one fandom in various stages of being done. One of which I am actively the working on. (The other 8? I forgot about them for months. And still don't know what is going on with them. Oops.) But I guess I'm just more determined to finish for this prompt than those. Am trying not to default on queer_fest.

Yep, I'm in the same place with mine -- all the excitement and brainstorms just aren't transferring themselves into a plot yet. But we'll get there!

I shall certainly let you know if I come up with anything: that kind of prompt, with all of its OC possibilities, kind of gets into your head (or at least it does mine!).

And likewise -- I'll take all the brilliant ideas I can get!

Heh... I completely know what you mean! I'm usually pretty good about pushing through a beginning that's not working until it coalesces into something that can be fixed with the Stick of Editing -- which isn't to say that I don't have a bunch of abandoned stories, too!

Oh, yes. Definitely all OVER the OC possibilities. I have characters! And I (sort of pretend to) know the story! I just ... don't know how to write it? I tried starting it when he was a kid and I didn't get very far. And I tried doing it with flashbacks, but, meh. Hmph. I love OCs in this sort of distinct universe. It's the best. ♥

I recently made my friend a little editing ninja. Like, out of yarn and an old red pen. Yeahhhh. He was pretty badass. Anyway, that's what I thought about when you said the Stick of Editing. :D

Oh, pesky structure. :D Without knowing your style, or what you've got thus far (or, for that matter, if my throwing out an idea would even be welcome, but, here goes...), what about writing out some of those Ministry laws and then what your character did to break them? (Did that make any sense? Sort of a larger story arc told in vignettes?)

Dunno -- thinking about weird structure styles sometimes helps me out of a block, sometimes not.

But yes. Writing OCs in a distinct universe is such fun -- and Harry Potter is such a great place to do that. There's enough information (about some things) to give a good framework, but lots of room for speculation.

That editing ninja sounds awesome! :D

I just found out about this community! I am excited, because my writing has been stagnating because of other hobbies, and I haven't been able to use it as a release valve. I'm pretty busy with many things this month, but even a little progress would be better than none.

Level of challenge: Plotting done for novel-length piece, at least 3 scenes written (hopefully for novel-length thing, but any other WIP would be good)

Fandom(s) involved: 10th Kingdom, possibly Cranford/Return to Cranford or Romeo & Juliet

What you're looking for from the challenge: feedback on excerpts, cheerleading, letting me know I'm not messing up on social justice issues in universes that aren't necessarily modern SJ friendly (I have a character in the 10th Kingdom fic who is gay and another who is physically disabled, and I am neither, so I'm really worried I'll fall into offensive tropes, which is what has been stalling me on this fic for a really long time) -- so I guess I want every kind of betaing but grammar. :)

What you could offer other participants yourself: I can be a beta and cheerlead and prod. Copy-editing if I'm not familiar with the fandom, which is probably most people here, since I am familiar with no anime or band fandoms. Feedback, discussions, etc.

How people should contact you: PM or DW comments is fine.
