WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 4 -- Wednesday

Hello on Wednesday!  The week is half over already -- hope it's going well for you!  What kind of a writing day has it been today -- or yesterday, if today hasn't gotten going yet?

Wednesday Discussion - A quote from J.R.R. Tolkien says, “When you are writing a complicated story, you have got to have a map.” Do you use maps when writing?  Are they your own creation or one that someone else has made?

I'm getting organized to write this morning, but haven't started yet. I did sign up for a challenge yesterday for a fic due at the end of the month, so I guess that counts as thinking about my fic, with a touch of planning thrown in!

Maps are important to me to help me keep track of where my characters are and how long it will take them to get to the next place. Since my writing is predominantly in Tolkien's universe, I use his maps (or maps created by others based on his work). I don't use them for every story, however, and the story I am writing in a non-Tolkien-related fandom does not need maps at all.

Managed another 1,000 words today. Filled the Fandom Stocking I most wanted to fill. Since there has been a short extension there, I have time to fill several others, too, if at all possible. This is good.

I use maps if I am doing originals (because I love designing worlds, kingdoms, etc.), but it is rare for me to use them in fanfic. Have not done that since the days I focused on writing epics (early '00s).
