We're embarking on week 2 of the June challenge. How's it going?
And for a discussion topic: let's talk about betas! Do you use them? Always? Sometimes? Never? Why or why not? Do you beta for other people (& do you think that affects what you want out of your own betas)? If you use betas, what do you find useful in the types of feedback you might get?
Poll #7192 WIP challenge day 5 check-in!

Date: Monday, June 6th, 2011 00:19 (UTC)I used to use a beta more often than I do now. But I am involved in copy editing in RL so I am confident in editing my own stuff. I will run it by a couple of people to be sure I didn't miss anything -- checking for spelling or formatting errors -- and they often find one or two oddities, but other than that, I beta for myself. I have beta'd for other people from time to time, usually people I know well.
Okay, now that I've confessed publicly to procrastinating, I shall stop doing it and set to work on Fic A. There's still time to pull this off...

Date: Monday, June 6th, 2011 17:40 (UTC)That's fantastic that you're able to use work skills for your fic. :) I used to do copyediting/proofing, but still found it difficult to do my own stuff past a certain point (& now I haven't done that stuff in ages so I feel like my brain has forgotten how to pick up all that kind of thing, eep).
