And for a discussion topic: Present or past tense in your fics? Do you use both at different times? (In different fics, I mean: not in that pre-beta stage where you accidentally keep switching... or is that just me?) Do you prefer one or the other in the fic you read? Does it make a difference what kind of fic it is?

I'll use either past tense or present tense depending on what the fic wants to be in. Sometimes I'll start in one and then go to the other (and then have to fix the continuity), but I'm always fairly conscious of which one I'm using. They feel different to me, if that makes any sense...

Yes! They feel different to me too. Sometimes if I start a fic in one tense & then, in a later session, I continue it & find w/o thinking about it that I've started using the other, it becomes really obvious that whichever one I used second is the right one for the fic. There's... almost a click.
