WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 10 -- Wednesday

Hello on Wednesday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today -- or yesterday, if today hasn't gotten going yet?

Wednesday Discussion:  Change of Plans -- Even when writing from an outline, sometimes plans change as you go along.  Have you ever been going for one thing in your writing and something entirely different (but just as good) ends up being written?  When this happens, what do you do with the original plan -- forget about it?  Save it to see if it works elsewhere?

I have had a change of plans at times while writing; once it involved the realization that one of my really good original characters needed to die. Another time, I had a change of plan that totally changed some choices my characters were making. This involved rewriting a big portion of my outline and future plan, but it was the right thing to do, and the story benefited from the change because the original plan was actually not in character for some of my characters. I tend to save all my ideas, even if I don't use them, just in case they are needed, but more so because it's interesting to look back and see the history of my writing and thought process.

I didn't have much time today, but I had a writing flash on my commute, so I ended up writing more than I expected.

By the time I have a proper outline, the story is pretty fixed. If changes happen, than during the outlining process. Or for shorter fics where I don't outline and dive right in.
