Hello on Tuesday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today -- or yesterday, if today hasn't gotten going yet?

Tuesday Discussion - Do you have creative dry spells which affect your ability to write?  How do you weather them?

I have had quite a few creative dry spells lately, mostly due to setting aside a story for too long and not being able to get back into it, or because I'm too stressed from Real World stuff that distracts me, so I can't concentrate on being creative. Even so, I try to keep my hand in by tweaking my outlines (which are usually extensive), brainstorming ideas even if I don't actually get around to writing them, and rereading what I have already written (and sometimes editing if I find something that doesn't work as well on a second look). This usually gets things flowing again (though not always immediately!).

I wrote 872 words today.

I found that my dry spells are usually tied to plot problems of my writing, so I usually put them aside so that I can solve them.

Argh, I didn't write anything the last two weeks. :( Which answers the question about dry spells, I guess. Usually I kick myself and try to get at least a really low daily minimum out, to get things moving, but this time, I was just too lazy and too distracted by new shiny things. No real other excuse, I'm afraid.

Did a canon review over the weekend to get me back into the mood and started writing again. I actually made good progress, at least. I need to really keep at it now, what with the big bang deadline.

Another double shift today (i.e. yesterday), plus another bout of feeling unwell and basically flopping on the couch as soon as I got home. :-| I'll file that under "dealing with life".

There are different kinds of dry spells, but ... yes. Right now, it's a long dry spell related to the above (chronic illness plus overwork). Not much to do about that but focus on self-care.
