Monday Discussion - Research via the Fanfic Flamingo.  Do you ever spend an inordinate amount of time researching something that ends up not featuring in your story?

I'm hoping to write today, as I have a deadline coming up I don't want to miss.

I do tons of research, and a lot of it ends up not being used. I don't feel it is wasted, however, because somehow the knowledge I have gained seems to add depth to the story, even if my research isn't actually used or if it is discarded.

Wrote a bit. My current fandoms generally allow me to not get too hung up on research, which is good because I am easily distracted.
