Checking in on Day 15

Sorry I missed posting yesterday!  Tuesdays are always crazy for me, but yesterday was unimaginably odd, hectic and stressful.  So I didn't get over here to make a check-in post.  I'm glad folks kept posting in the previous entries, though -- seems like there are some good things happening out there in writer's land!  \o/

So it's half way through the month of June.  Are you feeling good about where you are at the moment in your writing?  How is it looking for accomplishing your goals for the month?

Since we're playing a bit of catch up here, for today's checking in feel free to share how yesterday went as well how it's going today!

For discussion -- do you have any characters that were meant to be minor or even one-shots and they ended up taking over?  Do any of said minor characters "act up" and keep nudging you for a bigger role in the story?

I did some writing for my main WIP, now that I've decided to change the plot. Feeling better about it! Definitely tons of work to do--& if I start to think about it too much I get intimidated--but I got started.

I don't think I've ever had a minor character take over; sometimes that's b/c I am writing about them to begin w/. :)

I write 500 words for a kb fic and 250 for my new project. At least I get started.

In one of my previous fic, two minor characters pretty much take over my plot. It's annoying because I can't write them right.

750 words are a good thing. Especially as you can build on them. Next thing you know, you'll have two shiny, completed fics. Just you wait. :)

Yes, I was wondering where yesterday's post was. I usually find them just as I wake up in the morning and I missed having to update. But RL happens. I understand.

I wrote 2496 words! :D One shiny new scene yay! <3 it doesn't feel so long in the context of a 36k fic though, so yes. I'm happy. It's progress. I'm pondering doing a second version of this fic at a later date? Just so I can shove half my ideas in there and maybe get this one finished. Besides, I have to do something with 22k worth of deleted scenes, yes? XD

And ugh I have minor (and major) characters do that to me all the goddamn time. It's so annoying. XD Sometimes I can make them settle until I'm done then tell their stories, but sometimes they just keep badgering me until I give in. Bastards. XD

Some of my characters do that too. I'd glare at them, except that I'm tremendously fond of them and their naughty/cracky/sweet misadventures. :D!

Yeah, it's good to feel like I'm getting somewhere and not just editing again. Hoping to get some more writing done tonight after work and get even further along. So many holes to fill zomg. And I still have no idea how to break this 38k+ mosntrosity into anything resembling ' chapters'. Must work on that too. Even if I can theoretically post it all in one go on DW, I think it might be easier if it was split up a bit.

I just feel sorry for the characters who keep badgering me to tell their stories, but don't quite give me enough inspiration to sit down and write them. Some of my NaNo 2007 characters, I'm looking at you. I so sorry. :(

I managed to get about 300 words written for my first kink bingo fill, about 100 words written for another fic but nothing for either of my challenge fics. I'm hoping to work on my big bang today though.

These last two weeks feel like the worst there's been for fic writing this year so far. This is obviously how I should not be going about it.

Minor characters taking over? I had wanted to have minor character who was all important to the plot but absent - an Arlésienne. That's a bit too sophisticated though. I actually ended up writing three separate ficlets about her - although technically these aren't in the main story.

Oh, I'm sorry that fic writing is going wonky for you. I hope that things smooth over and you get the chance to scribble away. *hugs*

Thank-you. Its not so much going wonky but not going atall at the moment. The fic will be longer than anything else I've written and its much harder to focus on a goal that's far away.

Haven't been doing as much writing as I should have, but at least a hundred each the last couple of days… Need to get back on these long-term things. But I think I"m going to try some silly AU stuff today.

Haven't really had characters do that, but since I've been short-form…

Go you for writing. A hundred words each day DOES add up to a lot more than you could imagine. Also, silly AU stuff is a very cool incentive to write more. :)

I have about 2 stories that I'm working on. I tend to jump between them. A Harry Potter story and a romance short story. I have two stories in my head.. X-men and a Jonah Hex fic.X-Men is pushing to get out so I think the other two are going to be put on the back burner until X is out. Jonah is patiently waiting his turn. I have pages of notes about his fan fic so he's cool. X meanwhile is pushing and it's a wee bit annoying because well.. Sirius Black does not have Wolverine's claws.. I wrote in my HP fan fic last night that he did.. smacked myself in the head and crossed it out.
My X-Men story is based loosely off the last movie "The Last Stand". I am extremely disappointed that Cyclops and Jean died and Xavier is gone..

My story is like this Xavier has two grand daughter's [Raven and Rogue] that no one knows about.. Raven who is a telepath and can fly.. she is an Alpha her telepathic powers match Jean's only Raven's are a bit stronger as she has enhanced them. She also is able to absorb another mutants powers and those powers become hers. A gift she swore she would never use. The last time she used it she aquired her gift of flight. Jean and Raven are at odds and have been so since Jean came to the school. Rogue discovers that Raven is her sister that she was told was dead, killed by her human step father. Their mother was a mutant who deserted them after Rogue was born. Wolverine is heavy in this story. It's mostly based around Wolverine and Raven and Rogue.

When this story popped into my head I literally saw Raven's face, hence the icon is the face I saw. Lucy Lawless.

I tend to work on several fics at once too. If I were to solely focus on one, I'd get bored really quick.

I turned in my 21.5k words Big Bang draft in yesterday. (wooo-hoo!) OTOH, the fic is not done just yet (need about 15k more words). Which I can totally do in the next five or so days.

*ponders* Minor characters growing into Main ones is *exactly* what happened with my Big Bang. I had started writing the fic on kind of a lark and ended up pushing the "main" pairing completely out of the picture just so I could have the "little" pairing take center stage. I regret nothing as working on that "little" pairing has kept me smiling in ways the "main" pairing hadn't. (*)

(*)I was in the mood to write a happier story that the "main" pairing was giving me. They'll get their angsty-with-a-happy-ending turn in a couple of months. Win/Win! :D!
