WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 19 -- Tuesday

Hello on Tuesday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today -- or yesterday, if today hasn't gotten going yet?

Tuesday Discussion - Do you like to read other people's fics that feature a fandom character you also like to write, or do you avoid them?

I used to like to read other people's fics that feature my favorite character (that I also write), even though they often didn't write the character the way I do. However, lately, I avoid them because I don't want to discover that someone else had the same interesting idea for that character in a story -- it has happened several times that I discovered my clever story idea had already been used by someone else, and this spoiled it for me a bit. Not that I can't still use the idea because we aren't the same writer and my treatment would likely be different, but it takes some of the excitement away. So, if I don't read it, I won't know it!

When I finish my epic WIP featuring my favorite character, I'll go back and read all the fic and not worry about such things. ;-)

Nothing so far, but I anticipate writing this evening.

I love to read stuff about my preferred characters, and still actively seek it out. Someone else's fresh take has the potential to show me things I never thought of before, which is a draw for me as a reader and writer.

(Replying for both Tuesday and Wednesday.) Less writing the past day or two. The holiday season at work has been draining down my reserves, but ... almost over. Almost.

I do not read a whole lot of 'fic, but, if a rare character I like is featured, I am more likely to check out a story.
