Day seven, and we're almost at the end of the week. How are those WIPs coming along?
Today, I have done:
- Writing
- Editing
- Sent fic to beta
- Post
- Planning and/or research
- Procrastinate
- Something else I will describe in comments.
Today's question: Are there any fics you've written that you're particularly proud of? What do you like about them? Feel free to share links if you like.

As for fics I'm especially proud of. Oh, I'm sure there are a few. :) I think the biggest reason almost across the board is because I was able to evoke the emotion or the feeling I'd intended to, and the readers got it. That's very satisfying. Of course, writing a story that garners a lot of positive comments and a following is gratifying as well, but I don't think that always means the writer has to be overly proud of that work. In my case, one particular fic that resulted in that situation, is not the one I'm proudest of--not that I'm not proud of it for other reasons. :)
A few that I'm most proud of are:
(from Robin Hood BBC fandom)
Beautiful and Daybreak ~ a pair of companion drabbles, because I think they capture the mood so beautifully
Armistice ~ because I was able to realistically capture a character I don't care for and write the character I do like honestly even though he isn't always a likeable person
(from Harry Potter fandom)
Sleeping With Harry ~ because it's just cute and I was able to write irony :)

Date: Thursday, July 7th, 2011 19:33 (UTC)I'm proud of From Blossom to Blossom to Impossible Blossom, an OT3 fic for Natsume Yuujinchou; I'd requested such a story in an exchange & also left a prompt for it elsewhere, but didn't end up getting it filled. Usually when I prompt things like that it's b/c I feel like I can't write them myself: so I'm really proud that I gave it a shot & ended up writing something that I love (& that got kind of a startlingly good -- for me, for small fandom -- reception).
I'm also proud of The End of the Beginning, my Major fic for Yuletide. I had so much fun plotting out all the baseball bits, heh.

Date: Friday, July 8th, 2011 01:15 (UTC)The fic I'm proud of:
Marvel comics fandom
In Service I like the unspoken intimacy between the two characters.
The Tale of Young Iron Fist from Kun Lun I 'm really proud of this Yuletide fic because I have fun writing the action, the mystery, and how the protagonist interacts with historical persons.

Date: Friday, July 8th, 2011 05:06 (UTC)I am particularly proud of these two fics in the Lord of the Rings fandom:
Lords of Gondor, which is my epic AU WIP which has slowed to a crawl in the last couple of years but is by no means abandoned. I feel like it is a convincing attempt to keep a dead-in-canon character alive and involved in the story, and in the process, create all kinds of fun OC's to help him along.
A Great Evil Unmade, mostly because it just clicked for me in all ways while I was writing it, and whenever I reread it. This is actually the story I'm using as the basis for my current Big Bang, to give it a back story and possibly take the ending a bit further.
I'm also very, very proud of Dreaming New Dreams, a multi-chapter fic in the Major fandom. Up until this story idea came along, I had never written anything outside of LotR -- going from that to writing anime/manga and baseball was quite the switch, but it has been very refreshing to write something so different. As soon as my Big Bang is out of the way, I plan to get back to work on this one!

Date: Friday, July 8th, 2011 12:24 (UTC)I asked again within the fandom for a beta for my WIP. So hopefully I'll have someone to rip it apart for me by the end of the weekend.
I've also done some more research for the WIP. I know a fair bit about mental health issues (I study psychology as part of my degree) but I needed to research something specific for it and what I've found so far has been very interesting.
As for fics I'm proud of, there are a few :)
Haunted (SG1 fandom). I like this one because I wrote it at a time when I was uncomfortable talking about my experiences of domestic violence which happened during my childhood. It helped me get to a point where I could talk about the subject a lot more freely. Oh and I wrote a pairing I can't stand.
Rose (L&O: SVU fandom). Wrote this one for a challenge, quite like the mood I managed to capture.
Further Than A Heartbreak (Taggart fandom). Again I wrote this for a challenge and it's also a sequel fic which I generally do not do. I like that I captured the humour of the show and some of the UST too and I got to use my hometown for part of it. With fics I actually like to get everything I want to say in one fic and move on but in the end this became the second part of a trilogy.
If You Asked (Killer Instinct fandom). This is by far my favourite fic (biased I know). It came from an incessant what if thought around the events of the KI series finale. I did a lots of research and it took me roughly a year to write the whole thing. Life kept getting in the way, especially my responsibilities to my grandad.
