July WIP Challenge: Day Eight Check In

It's day eight, and it's now officially the weekend, at least where I am. How has your Friday been? Productive, or 'I'm so ready for the weekend I can't even'? Me, it was a little of both.

Today, I have done:
- Writing
- Editing
- Sent fic to beta
- Post
- Planning and/or research
- Procrastinate
- Something else I will describe in comments.

Today's question: Do you ever make your own soundtracks or mixes for your fics? Does it help with writing, or is it just a distraction?

Slow day at work, but I've been working on my challenge fic--only to discover chapter one has completely disappeared. At least the electronic copy. I'm hoping it's on my laptop at home, but it's highly unlikely. :( I do have a hard copy, so I will probably have to just transcribe it back into electronic format. But the fic is 13,800+ words without chapter one, which was cool to see since this is the first time everything's been in one complete document.

I touched base with my critique partners and worked on a fandom fic archive a little and I'm currently converting my DVDs of Friday Night Lights to iPod/iPad format.

And I even worked some. :)

Nope, don't do soundtracks or fan mixes. Music with words is generally a distraction to me.

I've managed to write 485 new words so far today, which is encouraging! It's a nice slow day where I can work on whatever I want to, for the most part, so I hope to get more written before the end of the day.

I haven't ever made an official mix or a soundtrack for my fics, but I have actually thought about it. It would be easy enough to do to put together a mix to listen to that goes with my fic, since I do listen to music while I write. I think I'll plan on doing that soon!

Another angsty snippet today! But... cathartic (work is still grrrrrr-making) & still words, so hey. Really hoping I have the energy/brain to do some editing this weekend. I've been feeling kind of sad panda about my fic lately, so I'd like to get my excitement (& my confidence) back up a bit.

I don't do soundtracks or mixes for fics, but I kind of wish it was the sort of thing my brain was good at compiling! I'm the sort of person who thinks, right, I'm going to do a fanmix, starts a new playlist in iTunes to add things as they occur to me, & then... it languishes there w/2 songs on it until months later I delete it.

I do listen to music when I write, though. Sometimes I can block out words, sometimes I need stuff w/o words. I do have certain artists I put on for mood music at certain points (this is the angsty part of the fic, so angsty music! etc.).

I wrote 500 words on my monster hunter AU fic, and then brainstorm another fic.

I have never done one. I'd like to, but my music knowledge is limited.

Friday was semi productive :) I got some more research done for my WIP which needed to be done and I asked again within fandom for a beta for the WIP, so fingers crossed for that.


I have music on all the time and I sometimes make small playlists for big/long fics but usually I just listen to whatever is playing on my itunes. It does help sometimes but I find TV more distracting when I'm writing.

I do playlists for specific fics if I'm having trouble with them. Is that what you mean?
