WIP Challenge Check-in -- Day 17 (Sunday)

Hello, linaewen here as your mid-July WIP Challenge check-in person!  It's the beginning of a new week of writing, and I'm wondering how it's going for you.  Has the weekend been good to you so far?

For discussion -- How easy is it for you to get side-tracked when you are determined to write?  What kinds of things to you find yourself doing instead of writing?

I have not written anything as yet today (or this week for that matter). However, I finally have some free time and I am really going to try to apply myself to writing SOMETHING today! After a long time of not being able to write because of horridly busy RL, I hope I can get back into it and not get distracted. When I am out of the groove, it's hard to get back into it!

My WIP in 4 words -- ONLY TWO WEEKS LEFT!!!

As for the discussion, this particular panda comment describes me perfectly. I sit down determined to write, and end up using up my time doing something "easier" like playing a mindless game, reading other fanfic, or watching some anime. It happens more often than not, actually -- probably because I have too much on my plate and when I sit down I need to relax, and writing isn't always relaxing. ;-) Getting distracted helps me feel rested, but it doesn't get that Big Bang challenge story written that still is only half way done and the time for writing it is running out!

I wrote some words for my 750 Words today; it might actually be worth turning into something, which is nice! Though arrrrgh it's another fic w/actual plot. Whyyyyyyyy? I'm so bad at plot! Especially at actually finishing fics w/plot!

It's so easy for me to get distracted when I'm trying to write. I'll click over to another application (usually my web browser -- or two of them, cuz I tend to use both Firefox & Chrome at the same time for separate things) w/o even thinking about it. Hey, look, I have new e-mail! Or maybe my DW reading page has something new on it. Or, okay, a quick check of my RSS feed reader.

I do okay sometimes using LeechBlock on lockdown (so I can't access anything). I've also had good results using the Pomodoro Technique, but making myself start a pomodoro is the hardest part! (That site looks like an ad, & it is, but you can get the e-book about the technique for free if you click around that site)

Oh, & my main WIP right now in 4 words or less: BETA PROBABLY HATES IT. (Hahahaha, probably not, but I am still quaking.)

Web browsers are amazingly distracting. One minute I'm hesitating while trying to think of a word to write, and the next thing I know, I'm clicking randomly (same here -- in both FF and Chrome), checking my email, etc. etc. *sigh*

That Pomodoro Technique looks simple and useful. I think I'll try it!

I've spent today both writing and procrastinating. It's been fic rush so I've managed about 1200 so far which I am ridiculously pleased with. Going to aim to get another 400 finished before bed.

My wip in four words or less: better than expected actually.

Instead of writing? Hah! I can do just about anything instead of writing. Today instead I finished the tidying that I've been meaning to do all week. At least that was positive procrastination, sometimes I just spend the time aimlessly wandering about or daydreaming!

I didn't get much writing done this weekend. I'm going to try to get some done tonight. Yesterday I spent the day at the Air show, my cousin flew his fighter jet up from Nevada.. it was great, mind you we were supposed to leave at 1.. we ended up leaving at 4:30.. I'm sunburned and still cranky,lol
I sat in my chair under the wing of the jet and refused to move as it was slightly cooler under there. I was able to do alot of people watching and came up with a few possible characters. Some of the shyt people were talking about was amazing as well.

This has been a pretty dad-gum weekend. I saw Harry Potter DH2 twice, once Friday afternoon and again this afternoon. After Friday's viewing I was bitten by a fic idea that wouldn't leave me alone, so at this point I have about 2300+ words for the first chapter. It still needs a bit of work, which I'll do after this post. I'm hoping this'll end up being my HP fandom epic fic, but we'll see where the muse takes me. I'm trying not to over think it too much as I don't want to figure out how it ends or I won't want to keep writing it.

Yesterday was full of meetings--all having to do with writing. First the chapter board meeting, then the chapter meeting, then a critique group meeting. A nice day all around.

As for distractions, when I know I have to write, I can avoid being sucked in, but when I'm easily distracted it usually because I'm just not in the mood to write. So I've gotten to the point where I just don't. No stress. Writing is supposed to be fun, so...no more stressing about it. :)

Instead of writing, it's either reading, housework, or a mindless TV show or movie.

I'll get back to the challenge fic as soon as I get it back from the beta reader. I'd been banging at it for two straight weeks and I was tired of it so I'm happy for the distraction of new fic excitement. :)

I've admittedly been a bit slack of late. I never seem to find enough time on the weekend to write. Most annoying. That, and I spent the weekend writing out ridiculously long PM replies about Egyptian gods. Like, 2-3k long. That was pretty much all I wrote all weekend. Did manage to find a beta for my AU big bang fic though. That's given me something less to worry about.

Hoping to get some writing done today though. Now that AU big bang is out of the way, I just have musing_way, Glitter, and kinked big bang to work on. Given I still have September to work on kinked as well, I'm not so worried about that. There's nothing urgent to write anymore, and I'm enjoying the distinct lack of far too close for comfort deadlines.

SO. Might tackle those last three chapters of Glitter today. I still have the epic final battle to write, and I hope I can stretch it out long enough. Else I'll just cut that empty chapter and keep going. Or something. XD I want this fic finished so badly I can't even. I just need to write those bloody chapters. I'm just going through it now, refamiliarising myself with it. I still have some bits in need of rewriting since I deleted a subplot. So yes. Funtiems.

I'm more likely to be sidetracked when I'm not so eager to write. Or if I'm in the middle of writing and discover I need to research some minor little detail I can't bear to leave unchecked. Then I spend an hour on Google, or trawling Street View on Google Earth for four hours, and maybe I'll write another paragraph or two. Google, I hate you. XD

I say finish and send my fic to my beta, and now it's editing time. I also start another fic.

I need to finish fic in one go or within a short period of time, otherwise I'll put them down and distracted by the Internet and started other fic.

Wasn't able to do much writing due to suddenly traveling all over different nearby towns with my parents, but got some editing done on a couple short stories last night. Tomorrow I plan to either edit my ladyfest fic and send it to my beta or get started writing my WIP fic again. It'll depend on my mood. XD

Oh man, I'm so easily side tracked. The last few days because of being away from home here and there, I thought I would be able to squeeze in some writing, only to be too exhausted to do so. And haha, I tend to say myself I'll look through internet stuff for a bit and then will write, only to be on the internet longer than expected. :O
