WIP Challenge Check-in -- Days 21 and 22

Yesterday got away from me, sorry about that!  Thanks to those of you who commented in Wednesday's post to share updates on your writing.

If you haven't had a chance to post about how it's been going for you lately, please drop us a note here and give us an update!  How did it go on Thursday?  Are you getting anything writing-related done today?

I share the following graphic because it's pretty appropriate for where I am right now.  Not that I am procrastinating on my Big Bang by getting involved kink memes, but there are lots of other activities out there that for some reason seem a whole lot more interesting now that i have only a week left before my Big Bang is due.  ;-)

 

How about you?  Do you find yourself more committed as a deadline draws near?  Or more prone to procrastination than ever?

I'm not dealing well with the stress of RL and the imminent deadline of my Big Bang. Now is NOT the time to be getting writer's block! I'm taking time off starting tomorrow, though, so hopefully having all next week free will help me relax a bit so I can concentrate on writing.

I did get some really good edits back from my beta which I haven't applied yet, so I'll be working on that today and I'm pretty sure that will get me in the mood for working some more. I think I'm going to take the advice of those who don't follow an outline, and just let my story tell itself without planning too far ahead. We'll see if that helps me get into it better. I also might try writing a different section and then come back to the one giving me trouble. I usually write chronologically, but a change in routine might jog me back on track.

I have always been one to work better under pressure, but lately I tend to procrastinate better under pressure!

I seem to be able to beta, but not to write. :-( I owe auction fics, and it's like I can't allow myself to have much inspiration until I get them done, but I don't have inspiration for them either. Wah.

I had three days off and thought that would do it, but no.

My resolution for today is to write one more paragraph on the one that has been started, and to actually start a second one (even if it's only with a paragraph.)

Writing a little everyday, though not on the July challenge fic. That's okay though. I'm not sweating it. It's on the back burner again for a bit until Narcissa Malfoy tires of telling me her story. It'll get done eventually. I'll just keep using it as my challenge fic until it's done. :)

I did a bit of critiquing yesterday for two of my four critique partners.

I'm planning on listening to Narcissa some more when I get home which should be in the next hour.

I procrastinate with other important stuff. Other WIPs. Other RL projects, but not random stuff like kink memes and the like.

I have been editing and writing! Been reorganising and rewriting Glitter, and now all I really have to write is the final battle, and the last chapter/epiloguey bit. AND THEN IT'S DONE. :D It's taken me three years to write this fic. It's a pity most of the fandom's disappeared since then. :/ I have no more active fandoms. This makes me sadface. :(

But I have a nice quiet house til Tuesday so I should get it done by then. Then I'll give it one last final revision and then I can post it. :D YAY.

I haven't worked on my kinked big bang for a while though. It's going off in weird directions and I'm having to pull it back to the kink focus so I don't have to come up with another idea. XD But we're getting there. I've got 5k now, and I have August and September to write it too, so I'm not panicking too much. It's giving me space to think about where it's going and not rush it too much.

I want to get a few more kink_bingo fills done at some point too. Not close enough to my bingo yet. I've got six to write to make an X shape. Thought I'd go for something different this time.

AND GAH. Deadlines. I hates them. XD My level of panic about deadlines really depends on how much work I have to do. If I'm just finishing off, it's not so much of a problem, but if I'm still not finished, and I don't have a beta (if it's for a big bang) and nothing is going right, then yes, I'm a bit panicked. D: But I usually don't procrastinate too much. I care too much about hitting deadlines so I'll work on it til it's done, and procrastinate my procrastination. (It's a skill. :P)

I actually wrote something! Yay me! Sadly, yesterday was spent on a visit to my son's university for his graduation - well, not sadly, but it did rather detract from the fic momentum - and today I am going to Fibre East to bathe in yarns and knitty stuff, so there will be a short pause in the fic production. But I've started at last.

I do have a remarkable ability to start writing just in time to be able to meet the deadline, and to judge without conscious thought how long it will take me to write the story and have it done in time. This is useful, because once a story is finished I want people to be able to read it. I remember feeling Great Frustration when I wrote for the RPF big bang challenge and finished the story in time for the deadline, only to find I didn't get to *post* the story for another month. Gah.
