WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 24 -- Monday

Hello on Monday!  What kind of a writing day has it been so far today -- or if today hasn't gotten going yet, how did you fare yesterday?

I did a bit of editing recently but that's about it for writing. I guess it's just too much to expect free time for writing during the holidays, so maybe I'll be able to manage more later this week.

This is the first year in a long time that I haven't participated in a holiday fic exchange -- the one I favor didn't hold the challenge this year, which was disappointing. I do enjoy them because it gives me a chance to write something that is usually different from my usual fare, even while being part of my usual fandom.

Hope I'm not spamming, but fandom_stocking is up and is vey non-commital. You can peruse the fandom tags and complete stocking fills as you see fit (no assignments or minimums). So you could potentially still find a prompt or two to challenge yourself even though your usual challenge didn't happen. Cheers!

So far today I haven't gotten anything written, but it's entirely possible that could change later. I'll update if I do write!

After working on two pieces that weren't the one I originally intended, I was looking at a third long-dormant one and bemoaning my lack of ideas for it. Next thing I know, I'm writing dialogue in a new scene for it. Still no clue where to go with the rest, but it's a good feeling.

Can't recall for sure, but I don't think I've ever done a holiday-themed challenge or exchange. I've always found Yuletide intimidating for a lot of reasons, not least of which used to be my perpetual lack of confidence and is now more like a realistic assessment of my abilities and limitations.

And I did finally get something done on the one that wasn't going anywhere, mostly by ruthlessly chopping out a lot of unnecessary verbiage that was just recapping canon events without changing enough to be of any consequence. Pare it down to the action, and go from there. And after that, got more done on three different others. So today I've made progress on five different WIPs, and I'm seriously starting to wonder if the new supplement I'm on really is making my brain work better.

I wrote yesterday!

I always participate in fic events. I really like being able to spoil someone with a gift, especially if I can squeeze in a bunch of stuff they asked for into one gift. Sometimes they can be a little dodgy with people dropping out or complaining about the quality of their gift, but overall I really enjoy them!
