And here is the end of 2018. I, for one, am happy to see it go. On to 2019! What have you been doing?

— Thinking. Maybe a little, maybe a lot.
— Writing.
— Planning and / or researching.
— Editing.
— Sending things to the beta.
— Posting!
— Relaxing, taking a break, etc.
— Other stuff-ing. Look at the comment.

Question: Looking back, how do you feel about your output as a writer in 2018?

My nineteen-year old Xena story that I recently started working on again, apparently decided it wanted to be posted before the new year. Feels good.

2018 wasn't too bad; posted nineteen stories total, though the longest was a reworking/finishing of an existing unfinished piece. But it was nice to see quality over quantity this year, as well as faster turnaround and completion times; I've been doing a lot better in this regard, especially the last few months. Also doing well completing both new ideas and long-dormant ones that for whatever reason, got a sudden kickstart of some kind.

I wrote and posted today. I also wrote an outline for something new (should be a beefy oneshot), so I'll most likely leave those for tomorrow. It's possible I might type a little more as the night goes on, but my cold is terrible and I'm already pretty tired haha. Happy New Year's to those who celebrate.

I have just finished a fairly large one-shot, had it reviewed by a friend, and am working on posting! It'll be the second thing I've posted in a week, and I'm really happy about suddenly feeling prolific again.

As for my output in 2018...mixed feelings. I did a lot of writing, but so much of it was for school hat I feel like I haven't accomplished much on the fanfiction front. Now that I've graduated, I'm hoping to have more time and energy and maybe finally finish some longer stuff that's been in progress for years.

Hah. 2018 wise? Not super happy tbh. In 2017 for NaNo I fiiiiinally started writing a super long fic (historical RPF centered on John Laurens) I'd been planning for far too long, and managed to complete the 50k words! After a few months, I managed to complete the first draft, too! But... man, longfic are complicated, and I just hadn't been able to plan out everything, so there was a lot around the climax I wasn't satisfied with. I tried to go back and rewrite things a few times and did rewrite some things, but there's still a lot I need to do :/ And unfortunately (for the fic, anyway!) midyear I finally got a job which immediately took up almost all my free time... and I still haven't found a good way to get back to the fic, since it's something I really need to be able to sit down with for an extended period. Vaguely hoped I'd get to that between the holidays, but nope. n.n;;

Apart from that, I've sort of gone back into a cycle of reading fanfic rather than writing it, and haven't caught on a new Main Fandom yet, so it's been a bit scattered. However, there is one fic I did in 2018 I'm quite proud of - an aroace Jughead fic that really got out a lot of the feelings I had/have around being maybe aroace. Hardly anyone read it obviously lol but I got a huge comment to kudos ratio and a bunch of people talked about how rare it was to find something so relatable in fanfic, so I'm really pleased about it! :)

Next year... well, I have several ideas I haven't finished yet, and I always want to get back to the long fic, but time will tell how much I'll be able to write. Unfortunately I doubt my free time will go anywhere but down from here;;;

I've been writing today! Just little bits in between drinks and watching TV. Having a wild New Year's eve ;)

I feel pretty great about my output this year. I put out about 178k this year, more than I ever have in a year, so I'm very proud! Hoping to push for even more in 2019 :D

Other stuffing just now, trying to recover from a mystery illness.

Not great output wise but I wrote and posted way more than I had for a good long while. I also updated a stalled WIP with a new chapter.

I was other stuffing yesterday, as I started coming down with a cold and was losing the power to make my brain do any kind of work. Today I plan on setting some writing goals (brain notwithstanding) that will hopefully help me do better than I did in 2018 at being consistent in writing. I have done a bit of this and that and produced some good writing, but I have neglected to work consistently on some of my main writing projects. 2018 was just one more year when I didn't make much progress with those projects, or even with being more consistent in writing regularly. I have a WIP that -- since the day I had the idea and started working it up as a story -- has been in process for 17 years, mostly because I go months, even years, without actually working on it. My main goal in 2019 is to finish that WIP, or at least make significant progress on it!

I wrote fractions of two different fanfics, and some original world-building, and laid out the plate tectonics, trade winds and ocean currents of the Forgotten Realms. I haven't written or posted full fics in years, but it did feel good to get back to what little writing I did do.
