Hello, writers! What have you been able to accomplish today toward your February goal?

— I wrote today!
— I planned and/or researched something.
— I sat down and did some editing.
— I sent things to my beta.
— I posted!
— I focused on something else today.

Writing question time: If you write from home, how do you avoid day-to-day distractions?

Today is an all-day-at-home day, which I have been looking forward to all week -- but my scheduled writing time came and went without me doing anything! I do plan to write today, but now I am in the distraction zone, so I'm going to have to force myself to stop everything and just write if I don't want to end the day with the realization I never got a round tuit!

I have been doing fairly well lately with avoiding distractions by keeping to my set schedule and not allowing myself to do anything with email, phone, and social media during my writing time. I allow myself to use the internet if I need to look something up that is writing related, otherwise no internet. When I have a whole day free, it seems to be harder, though, because I find myself thinking I can write later, so I'll just do *insert interrupting job* now -- which is why it's mid afternoon and I haven't even looked at my writing yet!

I didn't manage any writing on Saturday, but I did eventually spend a lot of time in planning and research on Friday. I think I'm done planning for the new stories I've been thinking -- now I need to get back to the languishing WIP chapter that needs writing and posting by the end of the month!

No writing today, either. I have to rest up before another long work day (... and a visit from the in-laws).

Home is the only place I can write, so distractions are not normally a big issue (unless football is on).

I was rather unfocused last night, so all I got done was a few minor edits to the fic, which added maybe 10 words. And I won't really have time today or tomorrow for much, but perhaps tomorrow night. I *have* been trying to think of the next A-plot to include, so that's useful. It really needs serious plotting before I can write much, anyway.

I don't really think about avoiding distractions so much as "do I know what is up next?" Because if I can picture the next scene, I don't have any trouble staying focused on writing it, it's exciting to me to see it get fleshed out. My trouble is always figuring out what is going to happen so I can write it. I also tend to write later in the evening when the rest of the household has gone to bed so it's quiet and I can concentrate, but I've written when everyone was around, too. I imagine it might be different for those who are writing professionally, but my writing is entirely within fandom, so for me it's just a creative outlet in between the things that actually earn me money. I'd like to write a little more (because I love the comments I get, and there are stories that I have that no one else is ever going to write), which is why I joined this community (and it's helping me keep it in mind and write more here and there as I can), but I don't have a set time that I try to write for each day or anything.

I guess that last one, heh. I've got a WIP that I'm supposed to be finishing, but I had an inspiration to explore a part of a completely different series. It's not going great, though technically it is the first draft, so I probably shouldn't be so hard on myself. But even the WIP has its own issues, so I don't know why my brain won't focus on fixing them...
