Hello, writers! What have you been able to accomplish today toward your February goal?
— I wrote today!
— I planned and/or researched something.
— I sat down and did some editing.
— I sent things to my beta.
— I posted!
— I focused on something else today.
Writing question time: If you write from home, how do you avoid day-to-day distractions?

Writing question time: If you write from home, how do you avoid day-to-day distractions?

Date: Friday, February 22nd, 2019 21:11 (UTC)I have been doing fairly well lately with avoiding distractions by keeping to my set schedule and not allowing myself to do anything with email, phone, and social media during my writing time. I allow myself to use the internet if I need to look something up that is writing related, otherwise no internet. When I have a whole day free, it seems to be harder, though, because I find myself thinking I can write later, so I'll just do *insert interrupting job* now -- which is why it's mid afternoon and I haven't even looked at my writing yet!

Date: Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 00:48 (UTC)Home is the only place I can write, so distractions are not normally a big issue (unless football is on).

Date: Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 00:54 (UTC)I don't really think about avoiding distractions so much as "do I know what is up next?" Because if I can picture the next scene, I don't have any trouble staying focused on writing it, it's exciting to me to see it get fleshed out. My trouble is always figuring out what is going to happen so I can write it. I also tend to write later in the evening when the rest of the household has gone to bed so it's quiet and I can concentrate, but I've written when everyone was around, too. I imagine it might be different for those who are writing professionally, but my writing is entirely within fandom, so for me it's just a creative outlet in between the things that actually earn me money. I'd like to write a little more (because I love the comments I get, and there are stories that I have that no one else is ever going to write), which is why I joined this community (and it's helping me keep it in mind and write more here and there as I can), but I don't have a set time that I try to write for each day or anything.
