One of my favorite sayings: "1,000 words is a good day. 1,000 good words is a great day." ... What have you been doing?

Question: Is there a story you read that first inspired you to do fanfic?

Date: Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 22:00 (UTC)I think I was inspired to write fanfic by learning that it existed! There was one story that first got me into it, though--it was a glorious self-insertish Transformers fic, and I loved it so much I wrote my own and never stopped.

Date: Thursday, March 28th, 2019 01:18 (UTC)I've been a reader of Tolkien since childhood, but it wasn't until I saw the movies based on the books that I decided to start writing fanfic. So I guess it still comes down to The Lord of the Rings being my inspiration!

Date: Thursday, March 28th, 2019 15:48 (UTC)No single story, no, but my first encounters with fanfic were LOTR parodies I stumbled across during my initial LOTR obsession as an early teenager (coinciding with my discovery of search engines). From there I somehow found fanfiction.net (where I remember that I at least looked at - if not read - every single LOTR fic in the archive at the time - all 200 or so! ah, those early days…). But it was Smallville that inspired me to first try actually writing something myself (Tolkien intimidated me so much that it wasn't until several years of doing Yuletide that I first dared write LOTR at all, and even then I started with as a drabble, and later an emergency post-reveals pinch hit for someone who got a plagiarized fic in an exchange). However, even writing that fic, I still tried to claim that I wasn't a writer, lol, despite writing two or three other things over the next few years. (I finally gave up on that claim when I started doing Yuletide regularly, and now I do at least three or four exchanges every year, so…) I think my list of fics on AO3 would make that claim laughable in hindsight. :)
