Date: Sunday, April 14th, 2019 09:52 (UTC)Part of the snippet I wrote yesterday (alpha/beta reader hasn't seen it yet - they've been incommunicado for a while but they warned me that at least one week this month would be like that, so I'll just keep going as I can until they get back to it):
Andy emerged from the locker room after several hours of reports, and paused to rub a hand across tired eyes. It seemed to take ages to type them all up; she found her mind wandering frequently. She really, really needed to get some sleep. Maybe she would feel like being social then. Dov and Gail were probably wondering what was up with her, but the thought of going to the Penny, not knowing if Nick would be there… and there was no way she was going to sit down and explain the situation to anyone. The less she had to think about it, the better. And it wasn't like it was really their business anyway, she told herself.
She glanced at the clock as she slung her bag over one shoulder. If it weren't so late, she might consider checking out one of the other bars she knew of. At least she'd be able to get a drink in peace. But that would have to wait till tomorrow night. Friday night she was going to spend with only herself for company. A part of her remembered that was unusual before Project Dakota—but then, she'd spent her evenings off either with Sam or hanging out with the other former rookies, which included Nick. She let out a slow breath, setting her jaw in determination as she trudged out of the station. Things change, she told herself. It wasn't as if she was missing out on anything. Traci was spending all her time with Leo, Gail was probably trying to make up with Nick, and Dov and Chris just wanted someone to play darts with. They'd find someone else.
This section's not as interesting because it's a lot of the char's thoughts - but it's a critical bit of setup as it goes on to display several obvious ASD/PTSD symptoms in the next few paras - setting up to get worse before it gets better… *loves to crank up the angst levels on her characters*
