WIP challenge - day 31 check-in & July debrief!

How's it going today, the last day of the month? What have you been doing, fic-wise?

Let's talk about how the month has gone for you as a whole. Did you meet your goals? Are you satisfied w/whatever progress you made? Maybe you learned something about your fic-writing process or got some good advice. Tell us about it!

I spent a lot of the month feeling like I was in kind of a slump, I think -- work remains really busy & I needed more time to destress after work than I usually do. So... not so much progress as I would've liked. Still, after some fantastically helpful beta comments, I am on the verge of posting two fics -- maybe sometime in the next week.

So I remain hopeful! Now that I'm out of my slump a little, maybe I can attack some of the other WIPs...

(Oh, & forgot to say: I did nothing ficcy today. I don't think posting a fanmix counts...)

I wrote 1750 words today and finished the third chapter. Two more chapters to go, so I'm more than halfway through! \o/

I only started in the last third of the month or so. Overall I think it went quite well. I knew that I'd be quite busy with lots of things to disctract me, but I wrote almost every day. Just resolving to post my daily progress here really helps me, it turns out. :)

I've been super-productive this week. I wrote four fills for my kink_bingo card, and yesterday I wrote a 1200-word fic out of nowhere. Today I wrote 750 words, which is a mishmash of "stuff that could be a story" and "stuff I think is important for a story." It's a total mess, but I think I have more of a sense where the story needs to go.

I *love* it when those little fics come out of nowhere! They always seem to be the easiest ones to write. Congrats on the week of productivity. :)

Today was acceptable considering the chaos in my house--we're having flooring laid.

I still have not completed my original challenge fic since an HP plot bunny came and took over my brain. But I'm really okay with that. I'm loving this new bunny and the other fic's waited five/six years, what's a few more months?? :)

Ugh, flooring! That must be chaotic indeed. Hope it got done w/the minimum required amount that seems to accompany these things.

& yay for new bunny! Sometimes we just have to lay aside what we thought we wanted to work on, b/c we really needed to work on something else instead.

A pretty good month for me - I did several short fics that have gotten some nice response. But I'm stuck in the middle of a longer, 4-part WIP, and the last two chapters just will *not* come together for me. I've set it aside for the time being, hoping that working on some other pieces will jar things loose, but it bugs me that it's lying there unfinished! On the other hand, I know if I just hammer something together, I won't be pleased with it. Keeping fingers crossed for some progress in August!

Awwww, I'm sorry that your longer WIP is frustrating you! I know when I'm at that point, it does help me to do what you suggested -- go work on something else. I hope that does help you! & regardless, yay for getting some shortfic done!

Thank you! I definitely am glad to be able to keep going on *something*, but I feel kinda bad about that WIP just lying there, particularly since I posted the first two chapters. I know it disappoints people when something never gets finished. Everything in its own time, I suppose!

I think I progressed nicely for this month. I'm able to get one of my slashfest fics and my ladyfest fic done (though I need to send the rewrite back to my beta soon). I'm not able to get done my second slashfest nor plan anything for my second help_japan fic due to a lot of things going on, real life and internet wise. *glares at the writing contest I was judging*

Next month I'm hoping to get some intense writing because one of the fandom related Big Bangs will have sign ups starting tomorrow and I'm excited to get this story started. Also, with a couple fics finished I can hopefully at least think over my help_japan fic.

Sounds like you had some solid progress! & hey, judging a writing contest at least means you had writing on the brain, right?

I didn't look at a computer today (until now) and I didn't even pick up pen or think about writing. ;-) Think I'll take a few days off.

I accomplished my goal for the month, which was to finish my Big Bang fic and live to tell the tale! I rushed a bit at the end so didn't have time to actually fill in everything I had hoped to, so after it's posted and made public, I will probably go back in and flesh some parts out a bit. At the moment, though, I don't really want to see that story again for a few days! I was quite satisfied to discover I can really rip out the writing when I have to -- the only thing is, nothing else gets done. But it's good to know for future reference; maybe I won't procrastinate so much know or be so lazy at working on a fic project...

I'm looking forward to the new month's challenge where I get to go back to my oldies but goodies fics, that have been sadly neglected for some time.

You deserve some time off, definitely! & congrats again on the Big Bang -- that's fantastic that you were able to do it, & learned that you could churn out tons of words in a short period of time too.

Rather than my big bang, I ended up starting something for the porn battle. *headdesk* It's the same fandom though so I'm considering it practise. ;D

I didn't quite meet either of my goals (1k short for my big bang and six half fills instead of three finished fills for kink bingo) but July has been a bad month for stuff so I'm actually rather pleased about my overall word count for the month (6300 words). Also, I managed to complete a months challenge at 750words which I am ridiculously pleased about, even if the majority of what I wrote was utter crap.

Hahaha, it's the new shiny ideas that are the hardest to resist! But maybe doing a Porn Battle fic will let the part of your brain thinking about your big bang take a rest & get back to work!

& yay for finishing the July 750 Words challenge!! (Most of what I write for 750 Words is crap, but I really do think it lets me warm up my brain & work through the crap to get to the good stuff -- hopefully it works like that for you too.)
