WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 7 -- Tuesday

Hello on Tuesday!  What kind of a writing day has it been so far today -- or if today hasn't gotten going yet, how did you fare yesterday?

       - I thought about my fic once or twice
       - I wrote
       - I did some planning and/or research
       - I edited
       - I've sent my fic off to my beta
       - I posted today!
       - I'm taking a break
       - I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

Tuesday Discussion:  How much research do you do before writing a fic?  Do you ever stop in the middle of writing to do more research?

Tuesday is always extra busy, so I'm just planning today, but that's something, at least!

I love doing research, so I spend a lot of time doing it -- the bulk of my research is done prior to writing, as I want to make sure my idea is plausible and works with canon. However, I often run into something mid-writing that makes me have to do more research, so I will stop and do that before moving on. It doesn't seem to mess with my momentum too much, unless I get off on a rabbit trail in my research!

I didn't get any writing done last night because I suddenly hit a wall of tiredness and didn't have the energy to even finish the set of worksheets I was creating, much less write. So I went to bed. (I actually woke up before my alarm today, so I'm feeling good as far as energy goes - here's hoping I have writing time tonight!)

It really depends on the fic, what I need to research and how much - but if something occurs to me that I need to know, I'll definitely research and research - and get lost in research sometimes, lol. And I *definitely* stop writing to research, all the time. I have to have a lot of details sorted out before I can see the whole picture of the situation, and if at any point in time the picture gets fuzzy because I don't know some details, I might have to research until I have it clear again.

Yeah, I'm taking a break. Work has left me pretty tired, and I need to sleep it off before I even think of writing again.

I do as much canon research as I can before I write, but this being the Age of Wiki makes it easy compared to how it used to be.
