Discussion: prompts. Do you like to work with generic prompts (words, phrases etc)? Fandom specific prompts? Do prompts stifle your creativity?

I am having a hard time with writing right now. It's slowed waaaaaaaaaay down and it's beginning to drive me crazy!

Generic prompts generally don't work for me, but give me a pairing and a general theme and I am good to go.

Yesterday was okay on the writing front--got about half of a fluffbingo fill written, and posted a fandomweekly entry! I would have liked to get some work done on a big WIP, but I don't really know where I'm going with it, so it's sitting for a day or two while I figure that out.

I like working with prompts (fandom or otherwise), but I'm not big on extremely specific ones. I can do a phrase, a rough scenario, and a pairing, but beyond that I get stuck trying to match the details.

Posted my Rookie Blue 1x08 AU fic today! :D And my alpha reader now has the link to the gdoc where I've got not going back (my post-4x01 AU, the really long one I've been working on for a while now), and has caught several things in the first few chapters that I've edited. Can't wait to see this fic progress a bit more.

I can't always write a specific prompt, but those generally work best. I'm used to those in fanfic exchanges, and the more specific prompts will get me writing quickly. I may not always write exactly what was prompted, but it'll get me thinking of some fic to write, lol. (Sometimes the general focus changes as I'm writing, but it's the getting started that I needed.)
