Sorry this is a bit late--RL got away from me. How has your fic writing gone so far today? Or if you haven't made it to a writing point yet today, how did yesterday go?
-I wrote something
-I edited
-I posted today!
-I did some plotting/planning/research
-I sent things to my beta
-I took a break
-I dealt with life stuff
Discussion: Do you prefer posting longer fics as soon as each chapter is done, or do you wait and build up a few chapters (or even the whole fic) before posting?

Date: Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 07:40 (UTC)I only post when the fic is all done. That being said, I wish there was somewhere to post WIPs that was just for WIPs - like, "this isn't the final version and it may change" that people could find and comment publicly on them, separate from AO3 - where I never post something until it's all done. The only unfinished "fic" I have on there is actually a collection of separate ficlets, each related to a specific episode of Rookie Blue (and listed consecutively). Since they all stand alone, it's not an issue if I never finish the set (though I hope to). But I'd hate to post and then have people wondering when I'm going to post next, or if I will at all... and I don't like editing my fic more places than I have to, and there's always changes that happen before things are finished. Though I could probably post the first chapter of the fic I'm working on as I don't think it's going to change - but it would break my "no WIPs" rule. So, not posting until it's all done - whenever that is.

Date: Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 14:20 (UTC)My practice has been to post chapters as they are done, but nowadays, long gaps between chapters is causing me to rethink my methods. I have one long fic that I'm continuing to post as chapters are completed, because it's already up and running, and readers are waiting for updates. A couple of other long fics I have in the queue will be done differently; I'm either going to complete them before I start posting, or I will be many chapters ahead before I start.
