[personal profile] linaewen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Hello on Tuesday!  What kind of a writing day has it been so far today -- or if today hasn't gotten going yet, how did you fare yesterday?

       - I thought about my fic once or twice
       - I wrote
       - I did some planning and/or research
       - I edited
       - I've sent my fic off to my beta
       - I posted today!
       - I'm taking a break
       - I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

Tuesday Discussion:  Do you keep track of your writing by the amount of time spent writing per day, or by word count?

I did some editing when I got back from my walk.

I use a word count spreadsheet that I got from [community profile] inkingitout and it helps to keep track especially when I have a 0 words days.

I managed to resolve the situation that has been making my job so difficult for the past several months, so ... that helped me get started picking at what I think might be a very good idea for a crossover 'fic that I did not know I needed. :-)

I track purely by word count. If I tried looking at time spent writing (or sitting at the computer pondering writing), I'd just be depressed. Heh.

I created worksheets? It's words - not fun creative words like I want to, but words at least. (I have to have this set finished by tomorrow, so I'm creating them frantically.)

When I'm doing creative writing (fanfic, yay), it's always word count. I don't record it anywhere (unless one of these posts asks and I happened to remember what I wrote the night before), but I do tell friends or report progress if I'm in a live chat somewhere. Word wars are particularly fun - I miss when the IRC #yuletide channel had them. (Now everyone's gone to Discord - which I hate the emojis on and I can't turn them off anywhere, so I don't go there. But there's a few of us holdouts on IRC and we'll welcome anyone at any time of year who just wants to write and talk about writing.)

I did some plotting and outlining. My fic is somewhat mystery based, so I have to know what my villains are up to for everything to make sense.

I've switched from wordcount to time spent writing because I find it more effective when I'm editing and rewriting, but I'm always keeping an eye on the wordcount.
