There's enough interest in trying this out (thank you all who replied to my post! I didn't leave you replies because I'd had to have copy/pasted this whole post to everyone and it's more appropriate for a top level post anyway) :D so I thought we'd try out our first Sprint tomorrow at 6 o'clock in the evening. How does that sound? I think I can do Friday as well if that would work better. I'll be home most of the day both days and can be online a lot, so it can be moved either way some hours on both days :)
AIM looks to be the IM that most of us who replied have, so let's use that. I checked and Yahoo! really doesn't seem to offer chat room creation anymore, so that's out of the picture.

nanowrimo has a really nice tutorial page on several programs on how to access their chats (also held on AIM), so instead of writing instructions myself, here's a link to their tutorial: http://community.livejournal.com/nanowrimo/2102126.html I now use Pidgin myself because I can combine all my IM accounts to one program instead of having them all individually installed. And I really love Pidgin because I can save the chat rooms I use and just double-click on one when I want to join it (instead of AIM's own program in which I had to type in not only the chatroom's name but also my AIM name).
The Sprint chatroom's name is WriteThisFanficSprints and I'll post a reminder here shortly before the beginning of the sprint tomorrow.
Here's a link to countdown to 6PM GMT+2 tomorrow evening: http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?day=18&month=11&year=2010&hour=18&min=00&sec=00&p0=101

We could do a Session on Saturday and/or Sunday? Or are you going to try
fic_rush? I'm still thinking about that myself, haven't decided...
Also Mod, could we tag this and http://writethisfanfic.dreamwidth.org/7441.html somehow so we can find the info later on?

Date: Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 15:50 (UTC)I think the timezone tag is the most important to me however we end up wording it - it's always a bitch trying figure out which timezone is this taking place in so a place I could just click one link and see what's available in timezones I could work with would be so awesome it'd seem like luxury.
So do you mean like a general Sprint tag which woudl get *all* sprints so those to whom timezones aren't a problem would see all them regardless of timezone it's held in, *and* also a timezone specific sprint tag? So that a tag for a GMT+2 Sprint post would like this for instance:
Tags: Writing Sprints, Writing Sprints: GMT+2
Where the first is the general tag, and the second timezone specific sprint tag?
Gah. I'm propably making this way more difficult than it has to be!

Because then I thought people might be most interested in seeing either what's in their timezone (if it's a sprint or a session, people might want to do either) or when a sprint is (& then they can secondarily look at the timezone to see if it's possible at all). Does that make sense?
I'll tag them like that for now but let me know if you'd rather it be different--or if we see further on down the road that it's clunk we can always change it.
Edited to say: apparently tags w/a plus in them don't work? It let me tag things "gmt+2" but when I click on the tag in an entry it says that one or more tags don't exist. FROWN. I renamed it "gmtplus2" for now, which is superclunky, but thought I'd do something quick to make the tag work & maybe rethink it more later!
