The writing session is still rolling on, but I'm sneaking out for a bit to do this post! (Besides, I did more in the session than I thought I would, so hooray!)
For discussion: What do you do when you really need to buckle down & work on your fic? How do you close out all the potentially distracting things in your world? In the writing session we talked about internet blockers (like Leechblock & Chrome Nanny). Do you use anything like that? Turn off your phone? Tell your family to stay away on pain of death?

And how many words did you write today?
How did the first week of the challenge go for you?

Date: Sunday, August 7th, 2011 07:24 (UTC)I can be able to write without blocking the internet if I make myself not open the browser until I finish a certain part in the fic, have a certain wordcount, etc. Sometimes it works, sometimes I feel a bit stressed out over the story so I would surf around the internet anyways. XD If I really want to concentrate though I would use one of those programs like q10 and Ommiwriter where nothing but a background and whatever you typed fills the computer screen. There are times also where I get distracted from my parents since they tend to either want to talk to me or want me to take care something for them. Nothing I can do about that except try to write as much as I can before they come to me, haha.

Date: Sunday, August 7th, 2011 08:48 (UTC)I think setting mini-goals like you said (certain part in the fic, certain wordcount) can be really useful -- I know when I was at university writing papers sometimes I would tell myself I had to work for 4 more songs on iTunes (then I would hope fervently that 8-minute songs wouldn't come up on shuffle ;). I've had good results w/the Pomodoro technique but it's a matter of making myself commit to starting the timer & doing one more often! ^^;;;
