How do you feel about your fic today?

Today's discussion topic: What are your favourite tropes, both to write and to read?

I love tropes where a pairing is forced to act like a romantic couple/have physical contact/... and where that's exactly what they secretly want anyway. Could be bets, sex pollen, undercover as gay, truth or dare, having to share a hotel room, aliens made them do it, etc. I also love match making and drunk!fic.

I wrote 800+ words for a WIP that is giving me a lot of trouble -- I wrote the characters discussing the plot issue that I am confused about myself. I was hoping one of them would say something useful. ;) We'll see.

I'm drawing a blank on the trope question! For some reason being asked this always stymies me. XD

I sneaked in my porn battle fill just under the deadline. I was silly and didn't look up the timezone, so ended up in a bit of a hurry, but I think/hope it turned out okay.

The trope I seem to be writing a lot recently is domesticity. I don't know how that happened because I'm not actually that fond of it, but... writing it makes me happy.

I like banter, but I find it hard to write. You know, those impossibly smooth and witty exchanges that no one really manages in real life, except by serendipity.

I did not write fic. But I worked on a post! A meta-y discussion-y post about the value of labels and warnings and how fandom has changed in the switch from zines to Internet. (It's this ongoing sort of quasi-academic thing I jumped into... highly complicated.) Haven't finished it yet.

Also I had a massive epic conversation with my dad that started with Deep Space Nine and went on to religion and politics and nitpicky language stuff. Which was prep for a long thinky PM I need to write to a friend, so. :D

And tropes! I... am bad at identifying tropes.

I know I have a massive thing for "the Guarding Dark", i.e. a character who is always fighting an inner battle not to turn into a bad guy. And an equally massive thing for shapeshifters, cops, and cop-like vigilantes. (The number of gruff, lovable, optionally shapeshifty cop-guys in my list of Favorite Fandom Characters is... ridiculous. *g*)

I loooove writing slice-of-life fic; I love characters (especially guys) who love kids; I love protective parental figures, and masters of the deadpan one-liner (as long as they don't use it hurtfully), and clever-handed people, and people who would be good to have around in the zombie apocalypse. And I am ridiculously fond of "best enemies", and of partners who know each other so well they can work together without having to say anything.

Or by being really, really hyper and slightly crazy. (My family occasionally pulls off some pretty loony exchanges of banter, lol.)

Alone? I find it hard to write too. Darn near impossible. *wry grin*

I would love to read that meta-y post when you finish it! I've been chatting with friends a little bit on that very subject.

Still just plodding along with my Narcissa fic. It's too darn hot here to do much of anything else except sleep. (Today is the 37th day in a row :( with over 100* temps.)

But that's okay, I've been working on putting all the scenes I've written into order and then writing/re-writing the transitions to make them flow properly. And then I remembered a scene I meant to write and which I think I started but never finished, so that's what's next.

Tropes...I'm not so good with identifying those either, tbh...

If it's well done I like just about anything romance related. I do like "forced to spend time in close proximity" type scenarios when you can just *feel* the sexual attraction/tension between two characters (Mulder/Scully anyone?), um...that's all I can think of specifically off the top of my head. Secret baby is one of my least faves, though.

I don't know that I really write to any tropes either.

Got my 750 today, along with a little editing... which is barely what I've I've been managing recently. However, upon finding a series of writing meta posts with a few methods that might work for me, I did manage some more concrete planning and organization that I didn't have before.

I could probably name a few dozen trope I gravitate towards... but without opening that certain site, I will say that I love friends! As in the blood-brothers, die-for-you, nakama, stick-with-you-til-the-end-and-after-that kinds of friends. Along similar lines I'm a sucker for relationships that are in between being romantic and platonic, or maybe even romantic friendships, life-partnery things.

I wrote the core of another scene. It looks boring and I wonder if the fic actually needs it. The plot does, I think I'll have to try to jazz it up a bit - at the moment its just: characters A and B who are out of sorts with one another search for character C and don't find him.

I like stories where characters gradually fall in love - Ive never written one like that - but I like there to be more than just that going on. So, a bit of sappiness but with a rich backdrop.

That meta post sounds very interesting! Would you mind sharing a link once it's posted?

Ooooh, I love banter. Now that I think of it, I believe almost all of my favourite pairings banter a lot.

Was able to get around 250 words and finish the springkink story. I originally wanted to have the last stretch of the story be a full blown smut scene, but haha got stuck on how I'll do that. I ended up rewriting one of the paragraphs and still have some smut, but end it where things started to get heated. Change in direction, but I think it's for the best. XD

I'm not too familiar with tropes, although I enjoyed writing one trope in which the characters don't say their names. In that story I had one of the characters say his love interest's first name and then they became passionate with one another. The two had known each other for a long time, so it's about time he starts saying her first name. XD
