Date: Monday, August 15th, 2011 18:32 (UTC)I've only participated once in a challenge where I met someone else's prompts. But I got to choose the prompt that tickled my fancy, so I think it really was a combination. I've never done a challenge where I'm assigned a specific person's prompts to write. Though, ironically, I'm thinking of signing up for one. :)

Date: Monday, August 15th, 2011 19:37 (UTC)Over the past few months I've had tons of my own ideas & absolutely on fire to write them (& sob, slacking on an auction fic for someone else's prompt). I've only done two exchanges, & found them both pretty exciting -- I really like what I came up w/for both of them (I also did a couple of extra fics for one of them, still to others' prompts, but b/c I was choosing what to write it was more like a comment fic meme or something).
Most of my fandoms aren't big enough to support their own challenges/exchanges, alas.

Date: Monday, August 15th, 2011 20:18 (UTC)I definitely write better if I start with my own inspiration. Every so often, trying to fit someone else's prompt or request does spark something in me, but most of the time it's a challenge to do that. At this point, I don't have much experience in challenges, though I'd imagine I'd gravitate toward multi-fandom ones since I tend not to be into the bigger fandoms.

Date: Tuesday, August 16th, 2011 01:56 (UTC)I used to work from my own motivation, but a couple of my favorite pieces came out of participating in challenges. Recently, it seems like I make more progress if I'm involved in a challenge. I've done a variety of challenges, but they have all been in a single fandom.

Date: Tuesday, August 16th, 2011 09:39 (UTC)Sometimes I work better when writing for a challenge but sometimes I don't, partly because I tend to procrastinate and I end up rushing a piece out as the deadline approaches.
As for single or multiple fandom challenges, it all honestly depends on the focus of the challenge. I like both but it depends on if its a particular challenge ie kink bingo , yuletide, my main active fandoms OTP holiday exchange, that's suits me and prompts me whether or not I participate.

Date: Tuesday, August 16th, 2011 13:07 (UTC)I've taken part in a couple of challenges, and I'm pretty satisfied with the way the fics turned out. But since ficcing is the one part of my life that I can do "on my own" - without operating under someone else's rules or restrictions - I find that I prefer just following my own whims. I'm tough enough on myself without adding someone else's rules to the mix.
