For discussion: Do you find you work better when you write for a challenge or from your own motivation? If you like to participate in challenges do you prefer multifandom or single fandom ones?

Wrote/revised this morning.

I've only participated once in a challenge where I met someone else's prompts. But I got to choose the prompt that tickled my fancy, so I think it really was a combination. I've never done a challenge where I'm assigned a specific person's prompts to write. Though, ironically, I'm thinking of signing up for one. :)

Wrote a bit tonight. Still clinging to my minimum number of words for the day, hooray.

Over the past few months I've had tons of my own ideas & absolutely on fire to write them (& sob, slacking on an auction fic for someone else's prompt). I've only done two exchanges, & found them both pretty exciting -- I really like what I came up w/for both of them (I also did a couple of extra fics for one of them, still to others' prompts, but b/c I was choosing what to write it was more like a comment fic meme or something).

Most of my fandoms aren't big enough to support their own challenges/exchanges, alas.

Hahah, I've been so behind lately due to IRL things, but I did manage to get some writing and editing done, along with some reading I hope to continue later today.

I definitely write better if I start with my own inspiration. Every so often, trying to fit someone else's prompt or request does spark something in me, but most of the time it's a challenge to do that. At this point, I don't have much experience in challenges, though I'd imagine I'd gravitate toward multi-fandom ones since I tend not to be into the bigger fandoms.

Challenges and self writing are both fine. I like self-writing better, because I get to write what I'd like to read. But a challenge is nice, too, because then you know someone else will enjoy the story, too.

My wips don't excite me much at the moment, though I do want to write. Luckily, there's always a kink meme. I'm giving myself two days to wrap that up and then back to the poor neglected wip.

I posted two chapters in a couple of places (ones that were written ages ago, but I'm posting in some new places). I'm counting it as useful writing work, though, because I did a bit of editing on them. Funny how I always find something to change, even if it's just punctuation. ;) Even so, I really need to buckle down and work on some new writing; the month's half over and I haven't even looked at anything yet!

I used to work from my own motivation, but a couple of my favorite pieces came out of participating in challenges. Recently, it seems like I make more progress if I'm involved in a challenge. I've done a variety of challenges, but they have all been in a single fandom.

I managed about 1600 words of my bigbang yesterday and I'm very pleased as it means I (just) meant the artists deadline check in.

Sometimes I work better when writing for a challenge but sometimes I don't, partly because I tend to procrastinate and I end up rushing a piece out as the deadline approaches.

As for single or multiple fandom challenges, it all honestly depends on the focus of the challenge. I like both but it depends on if its a particular challenge ie kink bingo , yuletide, my main active fandoms OTP holiday exchange, that's suits me and prompts me whether or not I participate.

Finally got a bit of writing done yesterday! After a dry spell of 5 days, it felt good.

I've taken part in a couple of challenges, and I'm pretty satisfied with the way the fics turned out. But since ficcing is the one part of my life that I can do "on my own" - without operating under someone else's rules or restrictions - I find that I prefer just following my own whims. I'm tough enough on myself without adding someone else's rules to the mix.
