Date: Thursday, August 25th, 2011 18:51 (UTC)One thing that makes me want to write for a new fandom is lots of gaps, things I wish the story had told us. Some canons feel v. -- I don't know -- closed to me, I guess. There isn't something there that makes me want (or think of!) new stories, even if I loved the canon. I can't quite work out what makes a canon feel open or closed v. much though.

Date: Friday, August 26th, 2011 17:46 (UTC)I know the feeling. Bonanza is like that for me; the only time I wrote fic for it was a tribute piece after the last of the four main actors died. It's one of my favorite shows to watch, but it just doesn't usually speak to me on a ficcish level.
(Lord of the Rings is the same way, as is Casablanca. It's a feeling, to me anyway, that the characters' stories are complete within canon, I guess. *head-tilty of thinkyface*)

There's usually one central one per fandom, although I'm interested in the supporting people in their lives. There's more to it than that, because there are shows and characters I genuinely enjoy but never feel compelled to write about. It's a certain indefinable spark, I think.

Date: Friday, August 26th, 2011 17:50 (UTC)(I hate starting to skip things because then I skip everything that isn't just The Easiest. :P But I've been poking at this drabble concept for at least a week and it hasn't gone anywhere. And I'm not going to skip Scotty, because that's against the spirit of the challenge, whereas picking a different word is only against the letter. *g*)
