Date: Monday, September 5th, 2011 17:53 (UTC)Discussion question: I've been most involved in the BBC Robin Hood fandom. I've written fic, of course, all told probably 180K published words and probably several thousand more words in unfinished stories. I also participated in its land comm, both as a player and as a mod.
The most surprising thing was getting involved at all. I'm an introvert by nature and it takes a long time for me to warm up. But I really wanted to be a part of this group, so I had to reach out and invite myself in. Which, in reality, I think most fandoms work this way, but it was a huge thing for me to do.

Date: Monday, September 5th, 2011 19:56 (UTC)Surprising/unbelievable...Winning the Blind Go guessing three times I suppose.. or was it the nine months of lurking at the beginning.
I wrote a lot last night, don't know how much. I'm now really tired.
Has anyone else tried asking for C&C on fanfic from non-fanfic writers?

Date: Monday, September 5th, 2011 23:10 (UTC)Don't think this counts as a writing endeavour but I wrote a small post here about my options and fears for the bb I signed up for.
I've been heavily involved in several fandoms over the years - X-Files, SG1, L&O (original and svu), Killer Instinct (though I was alone). There are other fandoms but they're the ones that come to mind more easily. Most of my fandom activity has been fic but I also make icons and wallpapers too. I have made a couple of music videos for other fandoms, though they aren't very good and also made a few fanmixes which were quite fun to put together.

Date: Tuesday, September 6th, 2011 12:45 (UTC)Looking back, I think the most surprising thing I did in the LotR fandom was to join an online fanclub, getting to know people virtually -- then later arranging to meet some of them and becoming friends in real life. Groups of us who first met online would go together to things like Renaissance Faires and the Lord of the Rings Exhibition and viewing Tolkien's papers in a museum collection. Awesome stuff! That online fanclub was also responsible for me working up the courage to start writing and posting fic.

Date: Tuesday, September 6th, 2011 14:05 (UTC)Most active fandom - I'd say the current one (Supernatural). I started watching from the pilot in Sept 2005, but really got into the fandom about a year later. Have been to several conventions and made several RL friends. Learned how to make icons. And to date... I've done 1,300,000 words of fic. (Two novels, about 15-20 multi-chaps, and about 300 one-shots.) That's pretty unbelievable to me, particularly since every time I think I'm running out of steam, the Muse wakes up and we take off again!
