[personal profile] linaewen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Hello on Sunday!  What kind of a writing day has it been so far today -- or if today hasn't gotten going yet, how did you fare yesterday?

       - I thought about my fic once or twice
       - I wrote
       - I did some planning and/or outlining
       - I did research and/or canon review
       - I edited
       - I've sent my fic off to my beta
       - I posted today!
       - I'm taking a break
       - I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

Sunday Discussion:  It's a new writing week, and the last day of the current month.  Did you meet your writing goals for the month?

Getting back into the right headspace to get back to a story is an important thing. You can do it!

I finished the first two scenes in the chapter, and then got stuck. But something will come out today, even if only a paragraph.

I have barely touched anything in a week, my sleep schedule was too erratic to think straight most days. SIGH. I did actually meet and exceed the goal I originally set for myself in January, though, so that's something!

That's definitely something! I hope your sleep schedule gets sorted out, though.

I haven't written so far today, but yesterday I cranked out 1150 words of my most active WIP. Because I go back to school on Tuesday, I had been working overtime in January to get ahead of my goals. My goal, based on a goal 75,000 words for the year, was 6370 words in January. Instead I wrote 37,750 plus whatever I write today. This puts me far enough ahead that I could potentially stop writing for the entire semester and still not fall behind for the year's goal. (I won't stop writing for the entire semester - I need that outlet outside of school for my mental health - but I could if I needed to.)

That's a wildly impressive wordcount, holy crap! Congratulations!

Yesterday I finally finished the epilogue of my current WIP! Now I'm at a bit of a loss - this was a rough draft, so it certainly needs another draft/rewrite, which I've been looking forward to. I don't know if I want to channel my enthusiasm to start on that, or do the suggested thing and let it sit for a few weeks before looking back at it.

Congrats on finishing your rough draft! One of these days I really need to learn to write multiple drafts: I publish each chapter as soon as I finish it and try to fix continuity errors on the fly. I've got to learn to have more patience.

Thank you!

It took me some doing to get myself to do the multiple draft thing. While I also try to give myself an outline to work from, I'm not great at planning everything I want to go into a story - I discover a lot of threads or themes that I realize later on I'd like to develop, so I enjoy having the freedom to go back and strengthen them.

Though tbh the real reason I started trying to complete things was so I wouldn't feel guilty at being unable to keep to a posting schedule once I do start sharing, haha.

I don't even pretend to keep to a posting schedule - I write as much as I can of whatever I feel like, and post it whenever I finish a chapter. Probably not the best of writing habits. ^_^

I'm a big fan of whatever works for you! If posting as you write and when you feel inspired works for you, there's nothing wrong with that!
