Monday's discussion: have you ever written a character OOC and din't mind because that worked better for the fic?

Date: Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021 02:22 (UTC)For the OOC question... I usually give myself a built in excuse because I write a lot of AUs, and I can justify that "well, character x might act like this in a universe where they had xyz thing happen to them..." lol.
But if the fic demands it, then I don't mind someone being OOC, to an extent. For me the most important thing is that their characterization is consistent *within the fic*, even if that may or may not be completely true to their canon incarnation. (And I feel like canon interpretation of character provides a lot of interpretive wiggle room, anyway.)
Though if someone is straying too far from recognition, sometimes that means I need to reconsider some aspect of my fic.
