September WIP Challenge Check-In, Day 8

Good day, writers! We've reached the middle of the week and, based on everyone's check-ins, some good progress has been made on the goals we set for ourselves for the September WIP challenge. So far these check-ins have been a positive affair but for today I thought we could exercise some frustrations and vent about any issues we may be having. Let's exercise some writing demons!

Here are our discussion prompts:

-How has your writing mood been so far in the WIP challenge? Has anything been frustrating you?

-What do you do when you hit a roadblock in your writing that's keeping you from reaching your goal?

My writing mood has remained positive though, as I keep mentioning lol, this outline is giving me trouble. I'm almost finished typing up what I've already written and then will come the hard part of working on this climax and ending. But, I am making good progress and that's what I keep telling myself.

I'm ngl, I've never been good at getting around the roadblock. My solution tends to be walking away but sometimes it's months to years before I get back into the work, so that hasn't been helpful. Now I'm working at toiling away bit by bit even when it's frustrating because chipping away at the block will produce a way forward much faster than letting it sit there that's for sure.

I have no idea why, but roadblocks in writing don't seem to exist for me any more. Maybe it's all the attitude of an older person compared to twenty years ago. But if I have something sufficiently outlined, it's just a question of having the time to focus on it.

Just posted a chapter last night. Other than the comparative lack of feedback lately, it's all good.

Oh and the freaking traffic patterns are still the same: Since I posted the new chapter there have been 7 hits on book 1, zero on book 2, and 32 on book 3. Whatcha gonna do? Shrug and keep writing...

That makes no sense! I mean, you're right, there isn't anything you can do about it but the math is not mathing.

The level you've reached in writing sounds transcendent. Love the pic of this lion, it's a mood. Also *applause* for posting your chapter!

When I hit a roadblock, I usually work on something else for awhile, and also I try to figure out what is blocking me. I also have the problem of setting something aside for awhile when I am blocked, and then I don't get back to it for ages. A lot of times the blockage has to do with how much time I have available to mull over the story, so if I am pressed for time, I don't feel I can spend the time that is needed to work through something, so I procrastinate and go do something else.

Procrastination is the worst! Working on something else can make you feel like you're being productive but when it's taking away from the thing you should be doing, it's productivity with a cost.

I feel you on time, or rather the lack of it, contributing to a blockage when it comes to writing especially when self-imposed deadlines are quickly approaching. That's come up as an issue for me time and again.
