Happy weekend, writers! My apologies for being MIA yesterday. The week has been a whirlwind and, admittedly, I've been quite tired and preoccupied. But, I'm back for one more check-in before our wonderful [personal profile] linaewen brings us through the last stretch of our September WIP challenge. We're inches away from October, y'all, it's been quite the month.

Before I launch into our writing prompts today, I want to talk about writing sprints. I think they could be a fun activity for us to do as a community, but I realize that I put out feelers prematurely. So, we're not going to have one today. What I'm going to do, next time I'm a host, is do a poll to see what days and times work best for everyone and give enough of a heads up that y'all can schedule accordingly if you want to participate.

Now, onto our prompts. No theme for today.

-Do you have a writing goal set for the weekend?

-How have you been spending your writing time this week? Outlining? Researching? Making progress on your word count?

-Whatever you want to talk about regarding your WIP or the writing process in general.

My scaled back goal is to keep writing through the weekend at least a little bit, and my larger goal if possible is to finish the current scene. Had to rejigger some scheduling today with non-writing tasks, as well as provide calm encouraging support and assistance to a panicking and depressed young person. So I'm glad I was able to help get her back on track and find solutions to her problems.

So far this week I've been slowly plugging away at this chapter's word count in between moving trips. First scene done, here's to another.

I still can't help being melancholy about my decision -- however firm so far -- to end this Dexter/Buffy series as a trilogy. Especially with the ending I'm planning, which does tie everything up and provide closure but also provides the perfect segue to another book. And yet, no matter how much I'd love to keep writing these great characters in this hugely fun and epic crossover universe, it really feels like with the third installment that this series will have said all I think really needs to be said. Certainly as always I'm open to suggestions, and I've written plenty of sequels that I openly said for years were most likely never going to happen. But for now when I finish this up I'll be going back to the City of Heroes fic with original main characters, and trying my hand at a Demolition Man fic about fatherhood.

(Also can't help wishing I could have the book and series finished before the new Dexter season starts in November. Though that probably wouldn't be happening even if I wasn't bogged down with other stuff.)

I have mostly been doing canon review and going over previously written stuff to help me make sure I am on the write track with my WIP. A lot of brainstorming is happening, not much actual story writing, but it is progress of a sort! My ideas seem to be solid, so that is good. I have to leave it aside for a time, hope to get back to it later tonight!

No worries about missing a check in! I definitely feel that whirlwind vibe too.

Awesome, I will keep my eye out for the poll!

I finished and posted another part of my WIP today, feeling pretty good about that. Now I need to switch gears and start thinking about an upcoming zine piece, so my goal is too do a little research and planning the rest of the weekend.

I spent most of Saturday chilling, but on Friday I finally up and posted the update to my WIP, which I've been working on feverishly for all of August and September. The response has been good! Partly because I posted links everywhere.

I still have the last leg of the holidays, but Wednesday is a normal weekday and I can finally get back into a proper routine.
