Hey! I'll be hosting the check-in posts until the end of month and I hope the writing is going well for everyone :)
For today's discussion topic: Do you write drawer fic, that is a story you write purely for your own enjoyment but without intention of posting it? What makes a drawer fic so enjoyable and what is the reason you prefer keeping it to yourself?

Date: Sunday, September 25th, 2011 18:17 (UTC)Discussion topic...I've never heard the term, so thanks for defining it. But I'd have to say that just about everything I write is for my own enjoyment, but never without the intent to post.

Date: Sunday, September 25th, 2011 18:19 (UTC)I, um, think I end up posting any drawer fic I might write. Hahahaha. There's some fics I've written for Natsume Yuujinchou that I feel are definitely id fic, & I think, ohhhhh so self-indulgent & pandering to ALL MY BUTTONS. But the fandom has a lot of the same buttons, ha, so... I've been lucky so far in that when I post these things I think are embarrassingly self-indulgent, they are well-received most of the time!

Date: Sunday, September 25th, 2011 19:56 (UTC)I don't write fiction if I think I'll be the only one to ever read it. That, as far as I'm concerned, is what my diary is for. I only started writing fiction in the first place when I discovered fanfic and the possibility of finding an audience online - it's not that I don't enjoy writing, I do, but for me it's always a medium of sharing with others. I don't need to go through the long process of writing to tell myself stories.
... of course, that said, a lot of my stuff never sees the light of day anyhow, since I'll come back to it two weeks later and then decide that actually, I don't want anyone to know that I wrote that. *g*

Date: Monday, September 26th, 2011 01:17 (UTC)I did write drawer fic back in the day, out of necessity - I didn't know anyone who wanted to read my stories. (This was way, way pre-Internet, before I knew there was such a thing as zines.) These days? Everything gets posted. Can't imagine not sharing it.

Date: Monday, September 26th, 2011 01:19 (UTC)I wrote something that was close to drawer fic -- a wee romance that was written for fun and for the eyes of only a select couple of people. The main reason I made it drawer fic was because I didn't want to reveal a certain character I had created for it at the time, because I plan to use that character in one of my current WIPs --eventually. I was trying to avoid spoilers. ;-) I was also shy about it because I haven't done much romance, but it turned out pretty well, so I may eventually post it.

Date: Monday, September 26th, 2011 07:53 (UTC)I've never done a drawer fic as I love sharing my writing to an audience, but there are times when I feel the story's writing style isn't that great or the content itself won't make sense I don't post it. Most of the those writings were meant to be for various contests and challenges, haha.
