Discussion topic: Do you use any writing exercises, for example to improve your grammar/vocabulary or to try out a different narrative format?

I did my 750 Words, just snippety fic bits that might end up stuck into another fic really (that often happens!).

Last night I did end up posting my [community profile] poetry_fiction fic, so I made the amnesty period. \o/ Looking forward to the reveal of the poet for the next round!!

I don't use any writing exercises of the type you describe, but I'll be curious to see what others recommend! Maybe I should use them!!

I saw that someone thought the prompts were too long & therefore too binding, but the mod emphasized that you could just use them as a jumping-off point. Which... I thought was the point of prompts, anyway. I certainly didn't take mine literally (I would've had to work in a horse standing on someone's foot & their toenails coming off from the impact)!!

They're supposed to announce the new poet at the start of October, & then I think there's some time to mull over said poet before having to commit in a sign-up. :)

Nothing yet, especially since I can't find my thumb drive with all my stuff on it. I think I left it at home. :( But that's okay. Now I'm forced to work, which I really need to do. :(

Maybe tonight I'll be able to get some writing done.

Discussion topic...alas, no. I don't usually do writing exercises much anymore. The only equivalent would be homework from online classes.

Too much RL and too tired today to get anything done.

I don't do writing exercises.

In the last 24h I added 1.5K to my fic but removed 2.5K :(
The stuff that's gone was mostly repetition but the fic feels slimmer without it and I'm further from the word count goal for the challenge. I think I know where I'm going with this, I just need a bit more energy to get it in a state where its bit to be beta read in in its entirity.

I like writing exercices for warm up and also try to experiment with differnt styles. Not a lot of that sees the light of day.

My RL writing for the month obligations are almost over, so I plan to get back to 2nd drafting a story I started last month.

I don't really use any "writing exercises" besides MiniNanoWriMo and this community.

Wrote a few hundred words for the big WIP, but they were added to the alternate draft... which bugs me because now that's a few thousand words long and I've realized that there are two very divergent ways I could approach this story and I don't know which one is best now and blizzargh >_>

I don't do any specific exercises, but I do keep running lists of vocabulary and phrases I really like. I'm not the best with prose so I would probably benefit if I wasn't so lazy... @_@

Hahah, I'm far from the most organized person but this is what I've been doing: Right now I'm using one of those applications geared toward creative writing that lets you have folders and multiple documents in a file. So, for the first draft there's a folder of tentative scenes in chapter one, two, and so on; after that there's a folder for "scrap" and alternate scenes that as of now don't really fit in.

However, I ended up making a whole different project file for this new draft (since I feel it's different enough from the original, and that I might have to start over from this...). Since this is a very long fic, doing that has helped keep things from getting out of hand. When I have to cross-reference I just keep both files open, which is a little awkward.

Nothing concrete done today, but I've got a new multi-chap (maybe 4 chapters?) in mind, and I'm sorting out the plot and various scenes in my head. Seems to be falling into place bit by bit.

No, I don't do writing exercises. My brain really balks at things like that. Or outlining. Or researching. \O/

Got some of my editing done for my story my two betas suggested a couple days ago. I still need to fix up a few things, but I should be able to do that along with writing more of my Big Bang tomorrow. Besides that, got the second out of four fics I need to beta for my friends done. The last two I already mentioned my friends told me I don't have to look at it right away, but I want to get them over with eventually so I'm planning to do those over the weekend (want to concentrate a bit of my Big Bang).

I too never done writing exercises. My mind will tend to wonder my current projects instead of what exercise I want to try out, LOL.
