Hi, I'll be taking care of the daily check-in posts this week.
Hope you are having a good day for writing today.
Here's a poll:
For discussion. What are your fic goals for the next seven days? Do you find short-term goals as useful as long-term ones? Or better? Or worse?

Date: Sunday, October 9th, 2011 16:06 (UTC)Right now, I'm getting housework done and supervising my son doing some chores and enjoying the MUCH needed rain.
Fic goals...a) to get my love scene for my exchange fic finished and then edited and b) work on revisions/edits in another WIP.
I do actually find short-term goals helpful. It's easier to accomplish the long term goals if you have a plan (or smaller goals) to get you there--you can see the progress you're making toward that larger goal instead of seeming nebulous and out of reach.

Date: Sunday, October 9th, 2011 20:10 (UTC)I prefer short term goals to long term goals. I have both dyslexia and dyspraxia so short term is always easier for me to deal with especially when it comes to something long term.

Date: Sunday, October 9th, 2011 20:56 (UTC)I like to have long and short term goals. Its often very difficult to judge the size of a task, but I hope but setting goals and trying to acheive them I can learn to be more realistic and less idealistic.
So, specifically, in the next 24h I'm hoping to write a bridging scene in my Hikago fic where the main POV character gets into conversation someone who finds the world of professional Go more difficult than he ever has - someone who he would usually have overlooked but who nevertheless has something to teach him.

Date: Sunday, October 9th, 2011 21:35 (UTC)I find short-term goals more helpful -- if I make myself ask for a beta & then tell them I'll send them the fic by next weekend, it's really useful in order to make myself stop faffing around & editing the fic in question to bits!
For the next 7 days... I don't know. I've felt like I haven't been able to get stuck back into any of my WIPs lately, so a goal would be to actually sit down & open some of those files. I've meant to do that for a few days & haven't. Also, I am hopefully getting my Kaleidoscope assignment in the next day or so! So, depending on which fandom it's for, the next week might need to be reserved for canon refresh. Or I might be able to dive right in (I'll probably need at least a little canon refresh no matter what, but how extensive depends on the fandom...).

Date: Sunday, October 9th, 2011 23:15 (UTC)The downside was I made coffee at home instead of going out to get a latte. My coffee is nowhere near as good. Ugh. Bad writing coffee. No good for the writing brain.

Date: Monday, October 10th, 2011 01:31 (UTC)Next seven days--probably continue to do some more drabbles until the contest is over, and work on some other fics for challenges coming up. Lots of fic writing. If I don't work on fic, I'll likely be doing more research for my NaNoWriMo idea for this year.

Date: Monday, October 10th, 2011 06:43 (UTC)My goals for the next seven days are get some editing of my Big Bang done, get through some beta work for my friends, and write a prompt story I owe that I hope to post it for Halloween. Like jagnikjen said, short term goals are pretty useful as a long term goal can get done if broken done into smaller ones. Since I tend to write plotty stories, that's what I tend to do.
