For Discussion: What's your favorite waste of time? What delicious distractions are capable of pulling you away from your writing? How do you cope with them? Are you invulnerable? Or have you found a strategy for resisting?

I have done no fic-related writing whatsoever today. Too much RL work - some of which involved teaching, which was extenuating.

So Ogano-chan and the other OCs I planned on writing about have remained in my head and haven't yet had their scenes revamped...Tomorrow

My favorite distraction is reading fanfic. I try to control it by limiting myself to a screen at a time. I also read mainly on fandomms where I don't write.

Yay! I wrote a 3000 word story yesterday and edited it today, posting soon.

And man. All sorts of distractions can pull me away but a deadline is great for making me get serious.

Today I wrote for 2 challenges during a 2 hour lecture. 1 fic, 1 drabble but for different challenges, need to type them over the weeknd and post too. There are some upsides to having a note taker in my lectures doing the bulk of the work for me :)

Distractions? Far too many :p I get easily distracted but usually it's something on tv or these days it's my flatmates. I don't really have a strategy for it though :)

Deadlines. I hate not having something done. Drives me crazy!

800-ish words trying to grapple w/my Kaleidoscope assignment. I am so tired I literally fell asleep multiple times at the keyboard tho'. ^^;;;

Pixiv is a pretty distraction! & Etsy/DaWanda when I had money to spend. Sometimes I just give in & let myself waste time for a while b/c then I get the bug for it out of my system. Sometimes that backfires tho'.

I'm actually writing something right now, sneaking in something on the tail-end of the day. I was planning to accomplish so much today, but I became unaccountably lazy. So, I'm trying to compensate a bit by setting aside the major WIPs and scribbling on a more minor project.

Facebook games distract me. They're so silly, and frequently unsatisfying, but they can eat into my time if I don't watch it. TV Tropes is another favorite, although I think I had the worst of it a few years ago, and now it's much more manageable. Another one is reading anonymous prompt memes and having to talk myself out of starting a dozen projects that I'll never finish.

I also critiqued a couple of chapters for a friend and got a nice compliment on my skills for that. :)

Favorite waste of time is probably reading. I LOVE to read!! But then reading isn't really a waste of time is it??

Got around 450 words of my Big Bang today. Was trying to finish off a couple scenes in that chapter, so it took a bit of tinkering until I figured out how to deal with those scenes. I think I'm done with that chapter, but I'm considering adding one more scene. I might or might not, so we'll see. XD Tomorrow I plan to either do my Halloween prompt story or write for the weekly fic contest I participate time to time if I suddenly get an idea for the current prompt.

My biggest distractions are the internet and chores, LOL. I have no strategy to deal with those as I let my mind wander (that isn't writing related) for a while first before I'm the mood for writing.
