For discussion: How do you get your ideas? Do you ever consciously try & generate more? How? Does it work or just give you writer's block?

Ideas usually just come to me, though they are few and far between.

I have tried to just think them up like for drabble fests and such and usually I can come up with a few worthwhile ideas. I think for me it also depends on how into a fandom I am at any given time. The ideas spawn more easily when I'm really into it.

Close to 960 words of my Big Bang! Ended up writing another future scene, but then I got an idea over how I'll deal with the scene I got stuck on so I wrote a bit of that too. Hopefully I'll be able to write more of that scene!

Pretty much ideas just come to me too and I would just go with the flow.

The weekend went the way of rehersals and a concert. Now the School holidays are here and I have lots of work all of a sudden. Its bad news for fic. Though I still feel very motivated, fortunately.

I'm just getting a bit worried that Ive written a load of weird stuff. It isn't like the things I like to read (notable absence of happy ending for example - still, my fic is a prequel to a posted fic that does have one).

I get ideas spontaneously when I get mad at another fic or at fandom stupidity or just life (I think it might be a coping mechanism). One time I did conciously try to generate ideas was for a comment fic fest. I found I'd made a long list of them, even though I only wrote three.

Writing is happening! *jumps with joy* Okay, just a bit more than two pages, which is probably 500 words at best, but... writing! I haven't managed to do any in more than a week! (and I started a story. Which I've been thinking about for quite a while, but haven't been actually planning to write right now. Oh well. I hope I'll manage to finish it. It's a relationship story, and I am not that good with those. It involves the POV-person being rather stupid about the relationship, and not getting why the other person has a problem, or that there even is a problem. I, erm, don't quite know how they're getting through this, except maybe to have a flaming row, which would make the POV person very bewildered)

As for ideas, I always have lots. Or at least germs of ideas. Things to think about and develop into a story. It's developing them into stories which is a problem, but getting them... my brain's good at collecting and juxtaposing scraps of stuff from books-films-life situations and getting an image which could be a part of a story. Or, fanfic-wise, pulling out an interesting knot of canon interactions. Or being inspired by stories done badly.
