In my part of the world, it's halfway through the weekend. How has your weekend been going?

Date: Saturday, October 22nd, 2011 22:39 (UTC)I like it best when my ideas just come to me but sometimes when I'm in the mood to write, but they're not coming, I do try to coax them! Usually by looking through prompts or old snippets of mine. I read somewhere (ages ago & I wish I saved the link) a suggestion from a productivity blog that you try having 5 ideas a day. That sounds a little silly, but I don't think they meant 5 good usable ideas, just... try to think of 5 ideas a day, just to keep your brain churning away. I tried it one day & quickly thought of 5 fic ideas on the elliptical machine at the gym. One of them actually became a fic, & pretty quickly! However, every time I've tried it since then it just doesn't work, which is a bummer!!!

Date: Sunday, October 23rd, 2011 18:52 (UTC)I'm just getting a bit worried that Ive written a load of weird stuff. It isn't like the things I like to read (notable absence of happy ending for example - still, my fic is a prequel to a posted fic that does have one).
I get ideas spontaneously when I get mad at another fic or at fandom stupidity or just life (I think it might be a coping mechanism). One time I did conciously try to generate ideas was for a comment fic fest. I found I'd made a long list of them, even though I only wrote three.

It's developing them into stories which is a problem, but getting them... my brain's good at collecting and juxtaposing scraps of stuff from books-films-life situations and getting an image which could be a part of a story. Or, fanfic-wise, pulling out an interesting knot of canon interactions. Or being inspired by stories done badly.
