[personal profile] jagnikjen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Howdy, y'all! I hope your day is going well in general.

But the really important question is, how's the writing going?

~ Fantastic
~ Pretty good
~ I'm satisfied with it
~ It could be better
~ It's going like crap, but I'm trying
~ It's not

What have you accomplished since we posted yesterday?

Discussion topic . . . How did you do on your December challenge? If you can't remember what you challenged yourself with, go to this post.

Pretty good! I wrote and posted a complete ~1000 word story, "Gestation", which is a side-trip into the "Ovum" universe. (Warnings for mpreg, nightmares, and a bit of snuggling.)

I didn't take part in the December challenge, so I can't comment on that. :) Hope everyone else's writing day is gong well!

Won't be writing until later today - I'm tidying up my workspace at the moment. Clean space = clear head for writing and plotting. So far, so good with resuming the daily drabbles post-Christmas. I'm going to try posting earlier in the evening so I can get more sleep this year. This business of posting at 4 am has GOT to stop...O_o

Didn't do the December challenge because I'm new here. :)

Today I wrote! For the first time since early December! So as far as I'm concerned, the writing is going fantastically. :DDDD

Haven't written anything yet, but as soon as my father kicks me off the internet again, I'll be back upstairs & writing. I've given myself permission to just write silly little drabblets this month, and so far it seems to be working quite well, so I have high hopes that I'll actually make my wordcount goal again today. :)

Discussion topic: oh dear. I had a short burst of inspiration/motivation at the beginning of the month, and then nothing. Ah well. This month better!

800-ish words again on a [community profile] yuri_challenge prompt. Not sure I want to keep this one, but... yeah, all this noodling around is v. useful in helping me define stuff!

I actually... did really well on the challenge last month. I finished my [livejournal.com profile] help_japan fic fiiiiiiinally, & I posted 4 ficlets. \o/ Let's hope I can keep it going!

I had a good day. Added 450 words to the exchange fic and got it edited. Not posted it yet as planned as I'm debating over adding an extra scene or two but I'm going to leave that to the morning.

I didn't meet all my goals for December but I knew I was being a bit over ambitious when I set them. I wrote more than planned for Yuletide though, so I think that sort of cancels out the missing 1000 words for the big bang, and I at least got my other exchange fic halfway done and completely outlined.

Writing isn't going. I might have a look at my next planned thing this evening and fiddle with it a bit, but I'm in "getting resettled after the holidays" mode, so I don't feel too committed to that either way. ;-)

I had multiple goals last month, and didn't accomplish most of them -- BUT I did complete the Yule fic that was due in time to post it, yay! \o/ Also, one of the challenge fics I didn't finish was assigned a new due date this month, so I'm still in the running for that one.

How did your Yuletide writing go? Were there bears and flanicking? The bears were breathing down my neck the entire time, but I finished. Yay! I even made the deadline.

I had several not so brief moments of panic when I realized the deadline for posting was sooner than I had originally thought, but my family was kind and let me ignore them while I wrote non-stop to finish up in time. I even had time for a final edit, whew!

I actually convinced myself of the opposite -- that the deadline was a day earlier than it really was. Which was fortunate! That last day felt downright relaxing.

I didn't sign up for the December challenge, because I knew that I'd be busy enough that there was no hope of me meeting any of the goals I wanted to set myself. And then I far exceeded the only very modest goal I did have, which was to write 1000 words for Yuletide. I ended up writing a fic that was over 14,000 words and surprised myself silly. It has been pretty popular, too, for the itty bitty fandom it's in!

So, here it is:

Title: Her Lovely Face Gleaming Like a White Poppy (14,032 words)
Author: loathlylady
Fandom: Queen's Thief, Megan Whalen Turner
Rating: Teen and up/PG-13
Summary: The paths which Attolia and Eddis take are both paved with loss, but the ways they walk those paths are very different.

Which is an awful summary! It's vignettes from different points in Eddis and Attolia's lives from the time when they were both merely princesses to just after Eddis's marriage to Sounis. (So it's both pre- and post-canon, I guess.) Mostly genfic, but a couple scenes with them and their respective husbands. The prompt I got was AMAZING in that it allowed me to string along different missing scenes from canon in a way that was cohesive and thematically consistent while still pleasing my recipient. And I am just over the moon that she liked it. :D

Since writing this, I've been working on a "making of" post about it and why I made the decisions that I did, but it's starting to feel a bit ego-stroking, so I don't know if I'll finish it.

Wrote about 300, maybe 350 words. It might have been more, but I just introduced a character I've never written before, and it's proving a challenge to get into her headspace. I'm sure I'll figure her out eventually, but I might stall out for a few days until it finally clicks.

As for how I did on my December challenge... I failed pretty miserably. But I wrote so much more than I would have anyway that I have a hard time complaining. I hadn't written any fiction at all last year - maybe one thing that I wound up scrapping? - until I signed up for the challenge, so when I signed up and the words finally started coming, I was so thrilled that I didn't even worry about whether I made my deadline. There were words! Words that I was writing! And they mostly didn't suck! I'm still pretty excited about it, as you can see.

I need to start writing shortly - I generally write a bit at work, and I have two things to finish today:
1) Giftfic due tonight
2) Rewrite of a giftfic I turned in, but can "fix" by midnight.

However,I really just want to sit here and watch episodes of a show xD

(Because why work?)

That said, I got about 1k done yesterday, so that's nice!

350 words on my help_japan fic tonight, which is a slow but good start getting back to writing it again. Had to pause writing a bit to do some canon research. And oh, distractions. >.>; Kinda stuck how I want to approach the next part of the story once I get that scene done, so I'm considering sending what I have to my beta so far and see if she comes up with something. We'll see, though.

I didn't do so well with my December challenge. For one I haven't written very much on my help_japan, so I'm trying to remedy that this month. As for betaing Chapters 4 and 5 of my Big Bang, that didn't happen due to not hearing from my beta. Speaking of that, after this comment I'm actually going to email one potential new beta to see if she's available to beta (still going to wait longer for my current beta a bit longer, though).

Its a good question - about December - because I had forgotten, but I did write everyday as I said I was going to.

Right now I have revising to do for my work before I get to any revising of fanfic. Its pretty exhausting actually, which is why I haven't been jumping eagerly on all the bright shiny new fandom things that are rushing by. I'm still writing though.
I'm working on prompts from the LJ [community profile] 31_days community, which are good for ideas, though I don't have any fic from it that I'm pleased enough with to post yet.
