Date: Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 17:13 (UTC)I've written ~1980 words and completed (and posted) a new chapter of "Three and a Half Days" (Garak/Bashir, now R). Hooray! At this rate I may finish the fic (even though it wasn't on my goals list for this month) by the end of the week!
And I've been writing for as long as I can remember -- compulsively and often voluminously. Some of my earliest memories are of writing and illustrating my own little books. Storytelling seems to be in my blood, which is sometimes more of a curse than a blessing (see the article "25 Reasons Why Writers are Bug-Fuck Nuts", which explains this in hilarious and frightening detail).

Date: Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 17:20 (UTC)Yuujinchou Exchange (due Mar 17 - 1K word min): 24 new words. <-- group record? So ridiculous. I re-watched an episode to refresh myself on something and promptly fell asleep. Obviously I managed to get quite a lot done regardless. *rolls eyes* Current word count: 4,077
Help_Japan (due 18 years ago - 750 word min): No new words. Current word count: 3,666
I've always sort of drifted in and out of the same hobbies since I was a kid. Sometimes I'll be on an art kick and I'll be sketching and inking, while other times I'll focus more on something like team sports (it's about time to sign up for kickball again). Writing is one of those hobbies, though now that I'm way past school it's more noticeable when I write (as opposed to when I had creative writing classes and essays and was just jotting stories down on the side).

Date: Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 17:40 (UTC)I think I've dabbled in writing most of my life; I remember a mystery story I wrote when I was in junior high and my mom saved it for a long time. I've imagined stories in my head from an early age, as well! However, it wasn't until 11 years ago or so that I started writing fic and posting it -- which actually led to some opportunities to write and edit in Real Life.

Date: Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 19:15 (UTC)I have always been telling stories and writing. When I was five years old, my mom bought me a typewriter for Christmas (this was in the 70s, we didn't have computers around then ;)), and I remember being SO excited because I could write stuff that would look like it was in a book. I used to make books out of folded paper.
I wrote my first short story when I was in 7th grade, hunched over a composition book scribbling. I realize now it was fanfic! It was all about a girl in a high school rock band who winds up meeting her favorite band, and they help make her band famous. Yeah. I know. I had a whole trilogy planned, but it never happened, alas. I would give just about anything to get my hands on those notebooks. I wrote several stories then, all mostly of a sci-fi/fantasy bent. (When they weren't fanfic, clearly.)
Got away from it in high school and college (when I wrote angsty poetry instead), then came back to it as an adult. Thought for a time that I wanted to do it professionally. I've actually managed to sell a couple of short stories, and I've written two and a half novels of original stuff, but I don't think I'm really committed enough to be pro. I don't want it badly enough. But I DO love to tell stories, and I am so so grateful to fanfic for reminding me of that.

Date: Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 19:19 (UTC)I've written all my life. I remember vividly telling myself stories at night, and pounding away on an old travel-style typewriter where the e's got stuck all the time which I inherited from my cousin.
It wasn't until I got involved in a group called the Mighty Quill in the late 90's, however, that I began having an understanding of myself as 'a writer' as opposed to 'someone who writes'. That was one of those defining moments in life where you suddenly realize that something makes sense. :-)
