Date: Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 19:15 (UTC)I have always been telling stories and writing. When I was five years old, my mom bought me a typewriter for Christmas (this was in the 70s, we didn't have computers around then ;)), and I remember being SO excited because I could write stuff that would look like it was in a book. I used to make books out of folded paper.
I wrote my first short story when I was in 7th grade, hunched over a composition book scribbling. I realize now it was fanfic! It was all about a girl in a high school rock band who winds up meeting her favorite band, and they help make her band famous. Yeah. I know. I had a whole trilogy planned, but it never happened, alas. I would give just about anything to get my hands on those notebooks. I wrote several stories then, all mostly of a sci-fi/fantasy bent. (When they weren't fanfic, clearly.)
Got away from it in high school and college (when I wrote angsty poetry instead), then came back to it as an adult. Thought for a time that I wanted to do it professionally. I've actually managed to sell a couple of short stories, and I've written two and a half novels of original stuff, but I don't think I'm really committed enough to be pro. I don't want it badly enough. But I DO love to tell stories, and I am so so grateful to fanfic for reminding me of that.
