Date: Monday, February 27th, 2012 23:29 (UTC)As for writing sessions, I work better without chatrooms, so I don't think they'd do me much good. I like the concept, but in practice I'd probably just get distracted.

Date: Monday, February 27th, 2012 23:29 (UTC)Yuujinchou Exchange Bonus Treat #1 (due Mar 24): I started editing this, but then I got side-tracked. ;_; Current word count: 2,128
Yuujinchou Exchange Bonus Treat #2 (due Mar 24): No new words. I might have a new idea for this one that will be much shorter. Am mulling it over idly for now. Current word count: 0
Help_Japan (due 18 years ago - 750 word min): No new words. I promise to give this love after the Yuujinchou exchange stops eating my brain. O.o Current word count: 3,666
I had some fics come in for editing last night that I went through and marked up, so that took a bit of my writing time (though I enjoy it and love to return the favor as people are editing for me, too). I also ended up abandoning my editing once kitten decided she wanted to snuggle; we started watching some anime after that.
I don't do chat or IM or anything like that anymore. It became too much of a timesuck, and frankly a lot of the time I was trying to do other things on-line. I'm sure writing sessions work for other people, but for me there are too many reasons why it would be more of a hassle than anything. The check ins are good for me as I hate posting no progress, so it pushes me to try and get something done every day.

Date: Monday, February 27th, 2012 23:58 (UTC)As for writing sessions - I've only done it once, but it did get me writing so I think it's great. However, I do think writing sessions would need to be scheduled or agreed upon ahead of time in order for it to actually have any effect on me. Just wandering into the community chat room doesn't get me productive, writing-wise... only because I end up chatting up a storm with other writers who are in there, and I'm no good at chatting and writing at the same time. But chatting with other writers are great, because I do like the group support and it's helped me on other areas of writing. I've always been a lone writer, but I've come to realize that it gets quite lonely and can be frustrating without anyone to talk to. It's been great being able to connect with other writers. :)

Date: Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 00:54 (UTC)I like writing sessions. I used to get together with a couple of people every week and we'd just write together. Some sessions were more productive than others, but often as not, even if we weren't actually writing, we were TALKING about writing. I miss it.
Oh, and I'm hanging out in our IRC chat room right now.

Date: Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 02:00 (UTC)I've never been part of an online writing session with other writers, although I've done group write-ins with NaNoWriMo and I have a weekly session with a writing partner in Real Life. I find that I enjoy it quite a bit, since being with another writer (or writers) seems to produce a synergy (or maybe it's just competitiveness) that inspires me to produce a higher word count... and in my one-on-one writing sessions we can bounce ideas off each other, which is really useful. Most of the time, however, I write solo.

Date: Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 04:07 (UTC)For the discussion question -- I feel like I do better in solitary, though I haven't really given a writing session a good enough chance to see if would be helpful!
At this point, I think I might do better in solitary with my internet turned off....

Date: Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 06:29 (UTC)Writing is very much a solitary thing for me. As previously mentioned, I'm a method writer, so I have to feel whatever my character feels at that moment in time, and I can't do that unless I'm alone. For the same reason, I'm having fun when I'm hanging out with my writers group, but while I can plot, it's not productive writing-time. :-)

Date: Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 08:56 (UTC)I love writing sessions. It's a set time for writing with just the right amount of distraction that I don't feel all pressured that OMG NEED TO WRIE NOW.
