Discussion Topic!!

So PWPs!! Porn without Plot. Plot, what Plot? However you define the acronym, how do you go about constructing them so that they can stand alone and be the perfect snapshot? Do you start with the idea or the scene and then write, or do you just start with a pairing in mind and see what happens? Personally, I need a hook to do one successfully. Without a simple hook, they either peter out or they grow a plot and become something more.

Myeh. Stuff. Wrote some words. Feel snarky and like day-old cold coffee turned emotion. Can't tune out world and hide in words because responsibilities. Also is mum's birthday today so wordcount is a bluh because family. Maybe did 100ish, 200ish. Full sentences can take long walk off short dock.

I took a break today. I was going to do some editing but laziness took over and the fic still feels too new to give it the attention it deserves.

With PWP I tend to just let them run and not think about it. I did have one that got out of control because I had to keep increasing the rating as I added more words. I find that bad jokes often help when writing PWP because there is never any place for them in my other works.

Today was going ok. Well, I haven't written anything, had to tend to the zoo (read: my 25 rats), but then it went downhill about 5 minutes ago when I dumped an entire shaker of salt in my dinner :( so...

I like Plot what Plot! I like taking a piece of canon I wish I'd seen and just jumping in in media res.

I have incredible trouble writing PWP stories. They almost inevitably sprout plot. I'm not sure I've managed it more than once, and that was a kink meme fill. I think that part of it is that I'm not very interested in sex unless it serves a purpose in characterization or plot development. Once in a while, something will catch me, but it's rare.

I can see how that would a roadblock to the short, porny story. But plot and characterization are awesome things (obviously), so go you for helping them along when you write sexy goodness.

Today is v. good.

Yesterday I downloaded Scrivener and began rearranging my fic so it actually makes sense, as well as being in chronological order. Today I found the gaping holes in the story-so-far and figured out various ideas to write them up.

Also wrote 1200 words re: one of those (now former) holes, so been incredibly productive. :D

Thank you so much! I'm actually really excited about this. I've sort of rearranged my "challenge" to be 15000 words by the end of the month, plus writing every day.

I don't know if my story actually requires another 15000 words with the re-plotting, but if I'm lucky, it'll be finished by then.

I'm the most pleased by the fact that I figured out how to work in the POV shifts. I divvied up the story into 5 "acts" (a lá Freytag's Pyramid) and that enabled me to figure out that I can have at least one "scene" per "act" from the romantic interest's POV. Which is extremely helpful, considering that I accidentally wrote the ending from his pov. Whoops! >_>

I'm pleased as I wrote my 1000w today (my challenge is 1000/day) AND they were for my big bang chapter (also in my challenge goal) AND I typed them (rather than writing on paper and having to type up later).

I only tried PWP once. It grew out of a writing prompt about the senses (except sight). I was so embarrassed I posted under another username, but it got more hits more quickly than anything else Ive ever written. People like porn!

Go you!! 1000 words per day is a lot!! ANd it is always extra good when they are on a story that as a due date.

Ahahaha, people do like their porn! It's amazing how a little, throwaway story will garner hits and kudos and the thing you slaved over doesn't.

When I get into the right mood, it basically writes itself. I usually have this scene in mind and just write it down. However, it happens less often than I like. I guess mostly because I like to work on the emotional attachements of characters and there never seems to be enough time to actually write down PWP scenes (not that I don't think about them) :D

Got my second cottoncandy_bingo fic edited and posted! My beta suggested some parts that needed expanding so I did that.

With my PWP stories I tend to have an idea of sorts leading up to the sex, so rarely I'll jump right in the smut LOL.
