Hello, all! Time to talk about the day's writing!
Professional writers often get asked where they get their ideas, and provide a whole host of answers from the facetious to the serious. Being a fan writer is, perhaps, a little different from being a pro, but the question stands. When you're writing, where do you get your ideas? Do you fill in the missing pieces of your canon, or do you like to throw interesting crises at the characters to see how they'll react? (Or, if you're like me, do you like to read into the characters' interactions and like to throw them into bed to see what happens next?) Tell us all about it!

Well, I was gonna write, but circumstances beyond my control intervened in that plan.

Date: Saturday, October 6th, 2012 16:40 (UTC)Most of my writing involves filling in missing pieces of canon, so ideas stem from that. I try to look at canon from a different point of view and include events that could have happened or that weren't touched on fully. One of my WIPs is AU in that a character who is dead in canon is alive in my story and inserted back into the action; imagining how his presence affects the story gives me lots of ideas without a lot of effort! I also tend to get a number of ideas from pictures or sermons or reading I'm doing; each of these things can trigger an idea based on a character trait of one of the characters I'm working with, or a visualization of a scene I'm trying to create.
