How did you get on today?
Today's topic for discussion: I know some of us suffer from an over-abundance of bunnies sometimes. If that effects you, how do you pick which one to focus on?

Date: Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 23:36 (UTC)When I have a lot of bunnies going, I tend to try picking the one that is due first, if it's part of a challenge or a prompt. Otherwise, I tend to spend time with whichever one is newer -- which is bad for my poor WIPs that have been around for awhile!

Date: Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 13:12 (UTC)Currently, I have a Scrivener project called The Plotbunny Farm and I put all my ideas in there, sorted according to a sort of Venn Diagram process: when is it due, how close is it to being finished, and how much is it nagging me to get written.
I think of it in farming terms, with folders for Fallow Fields (old ideas that I can't bring myself to throw away yet), Seeds (bare-bones concepts), Seedlings (detailed concepts, with a couple of scenes written), the Current Crop (things I'm actively working on, or that are close to being finished, or being beta'd), and Last Year's Harvest for my finished, posted works.

Date: Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 13:30 (UTC)My epic WiPs have only been going for five or six years, but I really want to get at least part of something posted.
I wish I had your focus when it comes to challenges & exchanges; I am so terrible at winning challenges that I've given up writing for other people, so if I write too slowly at least I only let myself down. I really admire people who can complete challenges and exchanges.

Date: Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 13:34 (UTC)I think every writer must have folder(s) full of WiPs; it seems to be part of the process. I think I need to get better at focussing and prioritising, though. It would be nice to get more pieces finished and posted!

If I get stuck for ideas for my current project, I write one of the WiPs that needs finishing, usually the one that calls to me the most. I try to stay in the same fandom if I can, because that helps me go back to whatever I should be writing. Sometimes I switch to something completely different, and that can shake ideas loose, but it can also be distracting. For my epic WiPs, I can't switch so easily, because I have to immerse myself in the story and the world I've already written, and that takes time.
