Do you have ideas for stories you'll never write or won't write for a long time? How do you deal with story ideas that you don't have time for? Do you keep track of them for later?
I have a file of prompts that I thought I could write to but that I haven't had the time and/or motivation to work on. Most of them, I know I'll never touch. I have too many partially written stories to be willing to embark on something else unless I'm sure I'll finish it (that's why exchanges work for me. I'm sure to finish something for those). I've got fragments of about a dozen different novel length stories. I write so slowly that I'll likely never get to most of them, and I regret that.
Today's likely to be a no writing day for me. My fifth grader is graduating today, and I have to help set up for it. That'll take most of the afternoon, and I spent the morning in the school library. I'm just home long enough to post this and get something to eat.

Date: Thursday, June 12th, 2014 20:44 (UTC)This kinda goes hand in hand with the discussion of the day. I have an enormous amount of story ideas stashed away, many of which also have partial snippets written. I'm reluctant to touch most of these, partly because some of them I really have no idea yet how to take further. I also have stories that I've yet to finish so I'm hesitant about jumping into something else unless I think there's a good chance I'll see it through to the end. Because of this, the only ideas I actually get around to writing these days are those for short oneshot pieces and even then it takes me a while.
I'm going to be participating in Camp NaNo this July though, in hopes of at least tackling one story idea... just to give myself a month to see if it goes anywhere. I figure it's a good chance to see if I could make use of the idea - and with just one month, I won't have to feel too guilty about writing something new without first attempting to finish my WIPs.

Date: Thursday, June 12th, 2014 23:36 (UTC)I have a couple of story prompts due next week as part of a challenge, and I'm hoping I'll have time to work on them this weekend. However, the weekend is already being used up before I even get to it for other pressing work that I haven't been able to finish this week, so I really don't know which project is going to win!
